Joshua the Stud...

Joshua 6:1 really challenged me today, check this out... I won't give you the back story, but know that Josh and his army marched to Jericho. Jericho was a city with a huge wall surrounding it as its defense. God gave Josh a plan to overtake the city. This plan was not your typical "war strategy". Basically, God told Josh to have his army march around the city, once a day for six days, blowing trumpets... but on the seventh day do all of this, then yell really loud. What? That had to seem really bazaar to Josh's head military officials. Imagine if President Bush made a call to his military and demanded that seven trumpet players be at the head of the line and then all the army march around the enemy for seven days. Anyway, they did this and it worked!

I wonder if when Josh was walking around the city he questioned, "Will this really work?" Or was he so confident in God's direction and so spiritually high from God stopping the flood waters of the Jordan in Chapter 4, that Josh would do anything if God just spoke it.

What I do know about this story is that Josh's highest priority was to obey God, even at the sake of being a failure in the eyes of men. I mean, let's face it, if Josh had failed a lot of people would have died. That was a heavy responsibility. Just by reading this Chapter I can tell Josh was a neat guy... full of passion, a great leader, the word "fear" wasn't in his vocabulary, and also confident that his God would come through for him.
I would very much like to try and adopt those traits.
