Kalimoto is an indie rock group from Hampshire, England, based around the songwriting of brothers Al and Joe French with Mark Steele. The name Kalimoto was delivered to Joe in a letter from Spanish friends explaining they had a great night out fuelled by the cocktail of red wine and coke, Kalimoto.
Kalimoto began in 1998 as Al's 4 track demos, a wide collection of songs and snippets recorded after the demise of earlier attempts to put together a full band. Joe had already been coerced in to singing the songs Al wrote and began to present his own work. The writing process became increasingly collaborative with the addition of drummer Mark. A number of these earlier songs and ideas were fully realised on the debut album Multicore, recordings made between 2000 and 2002, released in the US on Souvenir Records in 2003.
By this time Kalimoto had set up their makeshift recording studio the Kalimotel, this however was short lived and they were forced to find new accomodation before completing any further songs. In 2006 Kalimoto opened Nineteen33 recording and began work on the follow up to Multicore; Some of Them Are Killers is due for release summer 2008.
Bassist Dan Clark completed the current Kalimoto lineup in Jan 08.
Kalimoto are a truly independant act.
