Formerly "Christopher & The Lion," taken from a dream I had two Octobers ago, wherein a massive, golden Lion ate me alive, the band is now undergoing some seminal changes. Namely, a shift towards more instrumental material, as well as a return to organic, acoustic, "home-made" instrumentation. "Kings & Emperors, Cities & Realms" is the logical extension of my dream's theme. It is The Lion, Aslan who is speaking-a picture of Christ, who desires all of us. He wants to swallow us whole... our wills, our hearts, all of us. In the excerpt above, taken from C.S. Lewis' "The Silver Chair," Aslan is responding to the questions of the young girl, Jill. She asks "Will you promise not to-do anything to me... ?" The Lion refuses to promise. She then asks, "Do you eat girls?" The Lion's response is overwhelming and profound. Outlandish sounding as it is, I believe it is quite literal, in the context of what Jesus has and is doing to the world. He loves and wants us all...
Rather than focusing efforts on an entire record, for now Kings & Emperors will be recording and writing when time allows, and trying to focus on getting out and playing more than anything else...
Stay tuned, Nashville (and beyond)!
