About

KOKORIKO How amazing fusion is when migrant people associate with the local community, not looking at their differences, but what they have in common, through music, which is the most internationally spoken language.
Coming to this country from Cameroon in 2007, Serge Tebu had only the love of music with which to find his place in the community. As a composer and band leader he wanted to combine his skill and experience with other musicians from different musical influences who each have a desire to show that people from a variety of backgrounds can work and play together. He came across Martin Milner playing guitar and flute and an amazing Iranian Graphic designer Banafsheh Barahmi through Community Arts Northwest in Manchester, Zac Sargent, a wonderful British afro-latin percussionist, an afro drummer from Congo, Pat Macman and a British fretless bass/cello player Alan Budd. From this they have created a unique combination of melody, rhythm and harmony to produce a sophisticated Afro-Latin Jazz sound, performing their own compositions.
They can also conduct workshops using their unique skills. They have performed at a variety of venues this year throughout the North-West and Wales such as the Not Part of Festival 2008 at the Manchester University, Exodus Launch at the Contact Theatre and the more recent Exodus Live Event at the Urbis as well as supporting Amnesty International at Picnic in the Park, Platt Fields and other events which were part of the Refugee Week in Manchester and Oldham etc. They would like more people to see that it is possible to create a unique style which is a combination of musicians from not only different musical backgrounds but different cultural backgrounds to integrate and create something which is recognisable to everyone. They are open to recording and festival opportunities.
