Lara Martelli

Half Italian and half Finnish, born in 1977, Lara starts studying dance at the age of 10. She becomes fond of jazz:
Billie Holiday, Nina Simone and Duke Ellington are her muses. Later Lara discovers Janis Joplin and makes up her
first band at 14. When she turns 16, she gets her first contract with a record company and she goes on a tour;
during the following two years she’s busy touring Italy with her band.

After seven years of great live activity in the Italian underground, in Winter 2001 Lara starts the project that
sees her renewed in her expressive gifts feeding technical contents of an artistical work started with the
realization of a first single-videoclip, “Non è”.In 2001 the young singer-songwriter is in the States to record the
album “Orchidea porpora”, an album that, just a couple of months after its official release (October 2002),
would have come in for the attention of press and audience, and not least for having been recorded in the temple of
rock music, Southern Tracks Studio, in Atlanta. Orchidea Porpora's songs are treasures of emotional and intimist
rock. The best shot of a very dense tracklist which alternates turbolences to whispers, but never loses a strong
sentimental energy”.
On November 17th and 18th Lara is invited at the 5th Jeff Buckley Birthday Tribute, in Chicago, where she plays at
Uncommon Ground and Metro as the only Italian act among other artists from all over the world.
Back from the States, on the 23rd of November 2002 Lara starts the “Orchidea porpora” tour at the club Rolling Stone
in Milan. The tour reaches the biggest cities in Italy – and some of the most beautiful venues – and ends exactly
one year later, on the 15th of November 2003, getting a thick grow of audience and fans.
Lara writes a series of “metropolitan” novels and together with her bassist Francesco Aliotta, she is giving vent to
her most intimist creative vein, going through musical paths that are less rock than the past, as she is exploring
her jazz roots. The new record will be entitled “Cerridwen”, and it will contain acoustic, warm and charming
atmospheres with electronic sounds, but most of all it will show off Lara’s voice in all its beauty.
