Dubalizer - Sub Existência

I finally get time to listen Sub Existência the first album of a Brazilian dub producer called Dubalizer. Release published on the excellent net label Fresh Poulp Records.

For a first album, the result is rather good. The producer presents a dub music with lot of influences for a sound already quite mature. We can feel that Wagner Bagão a.k.a Dubalizer has probably some experiences and a rich background in music. By the way, it looks like he is a full musician. Actually, he plays all the instruments to create his own music: beats, bass and keyboards plus the dub's effects.
In end, Sub Existência presents a dub which mixes roots and electronics blended of latino flavours. By moment, a music which remember some masters of the UK scene and a sound more dance-hall influenced by other time.

Also, the album is rich in collaborations. Mainly with singers from the Brazilian scene such as Dom Lampa, the female singer Nell and Arcanjo Ras. The French dub producer Tsunami Wazahari proposes a version of Abra Sua Mente too.

tracklist
01.
The Intergalactic Slapstick by Liquid Stranger

Second album under the name Liquid Stranger for the prolific producer from Arizona (USA) Martin Stääf. After a first full album release in year 2007 and some releases with this scene name and a multitude of productions with other aliases, Liquid Stranger is coming back for "The Intergalactic Slapstick" on the label Interchill Records.

On this new album, the producer propose a dub music which is very own and composed of various influences. The sound of the record is before all inna psychedelic dub style. A very interesting sound. To this sound, Liquid Stranger has added in a very good way some influences from East Europe such as gipsy music or from India and tones from the native Indians of North America. Very nice.
Also, he added some drops of dubstep (but not some much, just enough). By this fact, the production varies and waves between a electro-dub chill-out and powerful tracks in the limit of drum and bass with a bit of stepper to spice the sound.

More, it appears three different singers too: Brother Culture for two pieces of pur electro rub-a-dub style, Warrior Queen for a powerful "Mutants" inna dubstep style (à la Undubground) and Deeyah for a song "goastep".
The result is a album very unique which could touch people who are more oriented electro music inna dub style.

tracklist
01. The idea of Elfe-shop is to propose a distribution for independent artists, comics drawers, musicians or clothes makers. A kind of alternative to the big and main distribution systems. In fact, you could find on the site records, books, post card as clothes or bags. With a classification by type or by makers (under the name "manufacturers" for this last one).

All the products presented on the shop are made with an ideology of fair-trade, recycling and/or natural process.

The store is based in Finland but distributes products through European Union. In fact, Elfe-shop is proposed in different languages (English, French, Spanish and Finnish) and currencies (Euro and UK pound).

After a powerful first volume on the netlabel French Dub Releases, Hatman is coming back with his Showcase for a so interesting volume 2 still on the netlabel based in Bordeaux.

Remember, in beginning of this year, in January, we presented a release proposed by the French dub producer Hatman. Inna a stepper style, he realised a net release called "Dub to dub Showcase Vol.1". And this name would called some continuations: who says "vol.1", says at least "vol.2". This volume 2 is coming this autumn (and, nice present, for my Birthday... thank Hatman).
In opposite of the first volume which was more for sound system with a steady rhythmic, this new release is produced in a style and feeling much more roots. An approach of dub music, like he said by himself in an interview on the FDR website, more in destination of singers. About this release, he presents a succession of riddim with their dub versions with this idea.
The result is a release which is instrumentally richer than the previous. Important to note also the participation of I-Tist at the bongos. The percussions re-enforce the roots side of the production and are ideally well placed.

Of course, as the other releases of the net label, Dub to Dub Showcase Vol.2 is proposed under a Creative Commons license in free download on the FDR website.

tracklist
01.

At the occasion of the Netaudio Festival this week-end in Berlin, the net label LCL changes name and becomes LCL. In fact, a new identity is given to the net label launched and run by the French dub producer Volfoniq.
So, the acronym stays. The activities don't change: electro dub net label and cultural events organizer. But instead of "Les Critaux Liquident" the name become "Libre Comme L'air".
This new designation changes radically the design of the website. This one get a new and very beautiful layout for the container side and become also richer in contain: more details about the artists and the releases are proposed, a full dual language version in English and French is presented for a better Internationalisation, a player with all the releases, a full page of links with the dub-connection between the others and of course the catalogue of the net label with: Arrogalla, Azzurro, Bo Marley, Buguinha Dub, Calm, Disrupt, Dr Dub, Kou Chou Ching, Metastaz, Solo Banton, Tribuman, Volatil and Volfoniq.

To visit the new website and (re)discover the productions of LCL, click on http://www.lclweb.org. And don't search any more your favorite artits, they are "libre comme l'air".

When Europe sucks!

Sad news today.

The live session of the dub producer Dubosmium at the Netaudio Festival in Berlin is canceled.
The concert was planned this Thursday on the Experimental Floor of the festival.
http://www.netaudioberlin.de

The
thing we would like to denounce is the reason of this cancellation.
Moulay Abdellah Hassak a.k.a Dubosmium is a producer for Morocco. It
was a chance for him to come to present his music in Germany.
Unfortunately it's look like only the music is outhernational and
nowadays the borders are close. It was for that Dubosmium needed a visa
to come to play in Europe: Visa refused by the Germany's embassy in Rabat.

By
the fact Moulay is from North Africa, he can not present his music in
concert-live in Europe. We never know, Moulay could be a dangerous
terrorist. Sad reality of the World.
And more, he was not coming in
Europe for some economical reason, to make money and sell some
products: No, he was coming to play music. So strange and weird for the
political leaders who think Capital and money are primordial and the
base of the live.

The dub-connection wants to support Moulay but
also all our brother around the World by this message. With a big think
to Arabic people who has a jeered image by the Occidental media
propaganda as TV, news papers or cinema (thank you Mr Murdoch).

Live Short Cuts

After more of 400 concerts around Europe and 5 albums studio, the French duet Brain Damage presents in this end of September its first live production. A session recorded this last summer on the home city of the band, Saint-Etienne: the city of the green angels and other hot cauldron. Date which concludes the tour following the last studio album: Short Cuts. Album published on March 2008 (read review).
By this fact, the majority of the songs presented on the record are from the 2 last album studio. So Short Cut, a production more dub influenced that purely inna dub style, and the excellent "Spoken dub Manifesto vol.1", the album inna a electro-dub-poetry style which marks the evolution of Brain Damage to its actual style.
But the band has know to add the dub side (a bit missing) on the live version. Actually, this live production ending by some "classic" song of the band. Titles from the older publications such as "Ashes to Ashes - Dub to Dub" and "Always Greener (On the Other Side)". Before a final explosion with "Brain Booster", track from the first maxi of the Brain Damage.

So, an album for all the fan of Brain Damage (like me) even we have already the full collection.

tracklist
01 Bok (Broj 1)
02 Children Of Palakkad
03 Mundhu
04 Fenêtres
05 Mistaken Identity
06 Sterile
07 Under The Ground
08 Mi Nismo Voda (Broj 2)
09 Cube Dub
10 Genetic Weapon
11 Brain Booster
length: 1:03

Brain Damage - Short Cuts Live
Jarring Effects
date of release 28th of September 2009

available on Amazon

Published on Original dub Sound, the own label of the producer, "dubwild" (it's the name of the album) is a good and pleasant release.
The music presented by Jacin is inna roots feeling with some little influences stepper. On the whole, the record is rather melodic. A sound which is not especially intended for sound system and which don't have for goal to be. It's more destined for some chill evenings between friends. Share with them the pleasure given by the music, the nice and sweet melodies of this one.

Interesting featuring are also proposed by Jacin.
dub wars

The netlabel Original Dub Gathering managed by the band ODG proposes since the last week a new compilation: Dub Wars. But, for the honours, the idea was running by the French dub maker Redi.
So, like the title says, the release is not so peaceful. Actually, the programme composed of 15 artists and same much of tracks is oriented to a powerful music. The sound is dominated by a heavy stepper or by a deep and oppressive dubstep.

Also, by its name, the compilation gives excuse for some producers to named the tracks in relation with this boring series of movies: Star Wars. Or, straight out, dubbed the musical theme proposed all the long of this 6 episodes.
Fortunately for us, Dub Wars is not in image of the work of Georges Lucas. The quality is there and we don't get time to be bored by listening this compilation. In opposite, the 77 minutes are running so fast. And after a terrible ending signed by Ondubground, we feel surprise that is finnish.

Dub Wars is proposed in free download on the Original Dub Gathering's website.

tracklist
01.
The right revelation

After Musical Riot (see previous review), another French sound system launch is own label this autumn. This time is the tour of Roots Revelation. To start its catalogue, the sound propose a maxi 12" composed of a riddim by face plus, of course, their dub versions. Good sounds are proposed there.

The first face is squatted by Holyjah from the Reunion island and Downtown Sound. A riddim in the pure style of the Jamaican tradition with a perfect roots sound. In the tradition of bands such as The Abyssinians or song as "Jah No Dead" of Burning Spear... and actually, it's not dead: "Jah Live" is the name this excellent production. A rhythm calm and melancholic, a flow in the same nature. This side is a treasure.
On the second side, it's a riddim by Dawa Hi-Fi which is proposed with a sung version performed by Doctor B. It's "The Right Side" of the record for sound system and other selectors. After the meditation, it's the time to move on the dance floor with a riddim totally inna stepper style. Power, weight, steadily: all the good ingredients to bring fire are on this riddim. Also there, the result is surprising good.

The record will be available starting the next month, the 2nd of October precisely. About the distribution, this one is at he moment "home made". If you are interested, you should contact directly the label by email. The address is rootsrevelationsound[at]hotmail.fr (replace the [at] by the good one).

tracklist:
A1.
Musical Riot, first 12" coming (very) soon...

Musical Riot is a sound system from the South of France and based on the most sunny city of this country, Aix-en-Provence. If we talk about this sound system is because it will publish its first release during this month of September 2009 and launch at the same time its own label.
When exactly? Nobody knows but the maxi 12" is announced a little every where mainly in French website specialized in dub music. A bit as an event. And it's understandable when we listen the extracts proposed on the Musical Riot's website.

Actually, this maxi composed of 4 tracks + dub versions see lot of interesting and prestigious featuring and guests. For this first production, Musical Riot has invited Echo Ranks, the young dubber Jacin and Mark Iration himself on the first side. A good showcase which attracts the eyes (or maybe more the ears in this case).
This first part proposes "Chatty Mouth " a riddim realised by Jacin with Echo Ranks at the microphone. A sound inna pure style UK which include a flow smooth and sweet. The same riddim is divided in two parts to follow this first track. The both are dub versions signed by Mark Iration at the High Rise Studio in Leeds. So, we could be sure the quality is there.
But it's not all. On the dark side of the plates is coming a team from the Atlantic side of France: a team from Control Tower Studio. On this side, the riddim is composed by the Dub Machinist and produced by the Dub Machinist, I-Tist & Sir Hill with Mighty Cricket for the vocal. Again, when we can see name like that, we can imagine that the sound will be beautifully heavy... and it's the case.

So, a 12" lot of promises and would will probably worm still more some hotest dance-floors.
To follow the evolution about the final publication of the release, you can go on the Musical Riot's website, page distribution:
http://www.musicalriot.org/distribution.htm

tracklist
A-side
Echo Ranks "Chatty Mouth" (listen an extract)
Jacin meets Iration Steppas "Protection Part 1" (listen an extract)
Jacin meets Iration Steppas "Protection Part 2" (listen an extract)
Licenced by Musical Riot - Music by Jacin - Mixed and Produced by Iration Steppas at High Rise Studio

B-side
Mighty Cricket "Jah is so Good" (listen an extract)
Dub Machinist "Earthquake Part 1" (listen an extract)
Dub Machinist "Earthquake Part 2" (listen an extract)
Produced by Fred the Dub Machinist, I-Tist & Sir Hill - Recorded and Mixed at Control Towera Studio

Lot of guest stars are in programme: Professor Skank, Dubmatix, Weeding Dub, Bugalodub...

The first episode is planned for the 21st of September. It will be the meeting of the Abassi All Stars with Steve Vibronics for a New World of dub music.
Actually, the maxi 45 who opens the collection proposes the track "New World Dub" with the original version on the Face A and the Vibronics mix on the second. Could be sure it will be heavy and essential for the sound systems. Sure, also, that it's not the same New World that Rupert Murdoch* and friends propose to us.

tracklist
A-side: New World - Abassi All Stars
B-side: New World Dub - Vibronics

Abassi All Stars meet Vibronics - New World Dub
Deep Root - Universal Egg
release date 21st of September, 2009

To start well this new month and the dreariness of the Autumn which is coming (so, now, you know the weather of the day in Finland), we propose us to present a release to come from a country where we can imagine is a sun shine paradise: Argentina.
So, the records of the day is Scrambling Shapes: a maxi EP proposed by the dub producer Dubsalon. On this new production, he presents 5 tracks inna very electronic style, a dub atmospheric between ambient and psychedelic with some touch of tribal. A very personal and good music inna spy-dub style. The production shows well how the dub could be a very rich music by its own bases and by the influences we can add to it.
But, it's true, maybe the roots music purist wouldn't like.
The producer publishes here a very good release by quality on the sound production too. This last one was realised in the own studio of the producer in Argentina, the FreeStyle studio.
The EP is released on the Canadian label Node3 and distributed by Distelectronic.

Tracklist
01 - Metallic Shaman
02 - Violent Flower Strike
03 - Space Cakes
04 - Scrambling Shapes
05 - Last Drop

Total Length: 30:51

Dubsalon - Scrambling Shapes
Node3/Distelectronic
Release date 18th of June, 2009

links
http://www.node3-records.com
http://www.distelectronic.com/index.php?artist/DubSalon

Spiritual Evolution

This last Thursday, I saw an interesting post on a famous social network website: "Tomorrow, Friday 21st of August, new release proposed by Bandulu Dub on the netlabel Fresh Poulp Records." Yes, yes, the productions from Fresh Poulp are in a rather good quality, generally.
So, I program my alarm clock for Friday early to catch this new production and on waking, I go directly to the netlabel's website... nothing :( 4 visits after in the same day and same much of refreshing... still nothing. The disappointment starts to come.
Fortunately, in beginning of the evening, at the moment I started to cook my food for dinner I got a message: the promise came, the release was finally on-line.

The waiting was not for nothing. Again, we get a good production from Fresh Poulp Records with a release of 13 excellent dub tracks.
A "Spiritual Evolution" proposed by Bandulu Dub which is also a travel around the World. Actually, the project of the release was launched by the Portuguese dub producer but he realised this album with guest from every part of the planet for each track. In fact, the album is 13 collaborations with dubber from from China, Norway, Japan, France, Germany, Cyprus, Montenegro…
That give a release rich by the different sounds, tones or languages. A release rather calm but that we can easily appreciate the World music and the roots sides spiced of a multitude of various influences with a sound clearly dub music before all.
A release to download as soon as possible.

tracklist
01.
Like fathers like sons...

...And the legacy continues. Actually, "Joe Ariwa meets Young Warrior" is the first common album of the sons of two dub legends based in England: Mad Professor and Jah Shaka. The time of a record production, Joe Ariwa, son of Mad Professor, and Young Warrior, son of Jah Shaka, team up to produce a tantalizing album. On this one, they present their own interpretation of dub music. A vision of the music which is following the fathers one.

The sound is clearly an Ariwa production. No doubt about that. By listening, we can feel that Joe had dad as dub teacher. Same touch to produce the sound at the mixing board. Added to that, a feeling close of the other dub master. With much more Jamaican influences mixed with heavy bass.
In the visual side of the record, the tradition is respected with a cover worthy of the older dub meetings on the Ariwa studio. By the way, the album is (of course) published by the famous label Ariwa Sounds.

So, an album for the Mad Professor and Jah Shaka's lovers that their children take over inna excellent way too.

tracklist
01.
