So last night was the weekly Sandals College United meeting at Orange Citrus State Park in Riverside and afterwards a small group of people went to Coffee Depot (which is lame in comparison to Java Bliss) to hang out for a little bit. After seeing Evan and his friend Juan from UCR outside talking I decided to move outside to chat it up a little. Somehow the topic of taking a vow of silence came up and I made the vow to not talk for 24 hours starting at midnight. So I haven't said a word since 12 o'clock am and will continue to be silent until 12 o'clock tonight. For those of you that know anything about me, you know that I am quite the talker so this may come as a shock to you. I have been at school all day today and even had a group meeting with the owner of National Paving to discuss the marketing research that we are going to do for his company this quarter and I have yet to say a word.
I have done this once before and it turned out alright because I don't remember saying anything during my "silent time". The main reason that I am doing it is to think about all of the sarcastic and hurtful things that I tend to say for the sake of making a joke. I like to mess around, but I have realized through pastor Matt's message that words can hurt. I don't want my words to hurt people anymore. I want the words that come out of my mouth to be loving and uplifting to those around me. I still have one more class to go to tonight and then I'm hanging out with my friends and taking a hike up Mt. Rubidoux tonight before I go home to pack for a 2 day journey to Arizona for my cousins wedding. I'm sure that I won't have a problem remaining silent for the next 7 hours.
