About

------- ALL MUSIC AND LYRICS BY THE LEVER PULLED / COPYRIGHT SOCAN 2008, 2009 -------

The Lever Pulled are a trio from Corner Brook, Newfoundland. Influenced by musical artists such as John Frusciante, Matthew Good, The White Stripes, Hayden, Eels, Bob Dylan, etc., the band is open to and explores diverse musical directions while keeping their acoustic foundation. Members Mark Hoyles, Brent MacLean, and Mark Green write, perform, record, mix, master, and produce all of the song material as well as conceptualize, design, and produce the artwork and photography for the Cd covers and inserts.

In November of 2004 childhood friends Hoyles and MacLean compiled a 15-track self titled Cd of songs they had written and recorded over the previous year. Both members contributed all the instruments played (including guitars, bass, keyboards, vocals, with Hoyles handling the drum programs). Lacking any objectives or ambitions the guys were very surprised at the reception they received for their effort. Over the next ten months the duo released three more Cd’s of original material, "Just Inside the End," "The Worst Part of Freezing" and "Manual Focus," giving the band a catalogue of more than 50 original songs.

After the release of “Manual Focus” The Lever Pulled became a three-piece band when songwriter Mark Green joined, adding a new perspective on song writing as well as a fresh approach to the instrumentation - playing bass, guitar, piano, and drum programs. The trio would release two Cd’s only six months apart, "(a)way" in August of 2007 and "cloudwork" in February of 2008.

The Lever Pulled's most recent Cd "Wooden People" was made available on February 22, 2009. This 14-track disc comprises songs with a more electronic element than the band’s previous work. It is also the first time the band has had a guest musician on a recording. Trevor Smith (from the band "Mojo Pin") plays djembe and congas on the track "I Don't Trust What makes You Smile."

Rather than the usual method of jamming and song rehearsal, the majority of "Wooden People" was written and recorded with the three band members sending each other tracks via the Internet. In fact, at no time during the recording of "Wooden People" were all three band members in the same room at the same time.

Since The Lever Pulled’s incarnation the band has chosen not to charge money for their music, opting to allow fans to have the choice of either downloading the songs or obtaining the music on the standard jewel case format, free of charge for either medium.
