Lion of Ido

I was born Ido Zmishlany by the beautiful shores of Herzylia, Israel. At a young age I moved with my family to an apartment in Long Island, NY. I grew up in a diverse suburban neighborhood. I was often very restless. I was the kid that your parents said was too wild for you to have a play-date with. With my free time I taught myself how to play guitar on my dad's 1969 Guild Starfire IV. By age 12 I played piano, drums, guitar, bass, and I sang. In high school I started a band with some friends called Last Week. I was the lead singer/guitar player and the principal song-writer. We started out playing at temples and bowling alleys. Soon enough, I found myself with the 4th most downloaded song in the country as charted by Billboard Magazine after we did a live performance on Sessions at AOL. After touring for a year we found a spot on the Vans Warped Tour (04, 05), we toured with bands like Maroon 5, The Click Five, Sugarcult, Fall Out Boy. I wrote a song called "Unpredictable" which found its way into regular rotation at WHTZ NY - Z100 the largest radio station in the country. We were regular guests on their morning show, which had 3-6 million listeners. That summer the band and I played on their annual summer concert, Zootopia, at the Continental Airlines Arena. Later that summer I went on tour for 3 weeks with Marion Raven (1 Japan, Atlantic Records) throughout Thailand, Taiwan, The Philippines and Japan.

We began working on a new record by the end of summer 05 and found that we were not working together well. Our friendships were strained and we were interested in different music styles. As many bands do, we decided to part ways by Spring 06. I decided that I would create a new project that reflected my undiluted point of view. I recorded every instrument on almost every single song and sang every line on my new record that will be out later this year. I have created a unique alternative and progressive pop sound, a modern approach to the 60's, drawing influence from The Beatles and old Weezer records. I found myself writing some of the mostly deeply personal songs I have ever written. The songs are about growing up, going through changes in life, following your dreams, and the growing pains that come along with all of that. These are things that people around my age are going through, whether your graduating high school, looking for direction in life, going to a new college, redefining relationships, starting a new job, losing friends, breaking up a band, starting new beginnings, or struggling with life and depression. The songs are often filled with a bit of cynicism and sometimes a little hope. The truth is there is always a little of both. For me it is important for people to realize that we are all going through the same things. Starting this new project has taken a lot of courage and perseverance. It has tested my will and commitment to my ambitious goals. However, I intend to accomplish everything I said I would and this is why I've decided to name the project Lion of Ido.
