Christchurch singer, writer and teacher Lisa Tui has finally recorded her long-awaited first album of original material.

Renowned for the sheer volume and elasticity of her voice, her scorching sound soars to ecstatic heights
and swoops effortlessly back down to torchy husk in her songs of return, renewal and quiet joy. These are songs of grown-up life; the inexplicable loneliness of the wee small hours being expiated when sleep finally comes; the driving through darkness to a family waiting; the unexpected flashes of attraction for a comfortably familiar partner.

She genre-hops with abandon; from jazz funk to soulful ballads and into experimental chordworks with her brother, Nikora Jonathan on lead guitar. The laid-back near-reggae feel and intricacy of both lyrics and harmony has the combined effect of soothing the listener while at the same time intriguing the mind.

Her confidence and exquisite spirit shine through each of these pieces; this is a finely honed performer at the top of her game.
