Hi everyone, my name is Kris Mongene and I started Live Wired Creations in 2005 to put an official name on my "hobby". I'm a wire sculptor who makes anything ranging from vehicles, animals, musical instruments, ornaments, people, flowers, company logos, name plaques, and just about anything else you can dream up.
I sell one of a kind original pieces that are accessible to everyone from fine art collectors to the general public. The sculptures I create make excellent gifts because they can be very personalized. Each one is unique and extremely detailed. A piece, depending on size and level of detail can take anywhere from 1 to 30 hours or more to complete.
I began developing my technique around 1999 out of boredom and a need to use up some scrap silver jewelry wire that was laying around. Who knew it would take on a life of its own? The first piece I ever made was a small horse head. I started "drawing" the outline with the wire. Then I made it 3D. I switched to using mostly copper wire because copper is a beautiful color, it's easy to bend, strong when its finished and is economical. I have used other types of wire such as gold plated, plastic coated, and florist wire. The choice lies entirely in the customers preference.
The physical process of making the sculptures reminds me of a cross between sewing and drawing. The only tools I use are wire cutters and a small pair of pliers. Each piece I sculpt is a learning process where I discover new and better ways to do things. Even after 8 years of doing this the process is still being refined and perfected.
I've recently started putting on wire sculpting workshops to teach others how to get creative with wire. I'll post dates and times of those workshops when they happen. I can also be contracted to teach workshops for your school or group, just contact me in advance and we can set something up.
If you would like to place an order for a piece, want to contract a workshop, or if you have any questions please do not hesitate to send me a message or e-mail me at livewired@kittymail.com
