Wanderlust... tis a woeful and wonderful thing. I know several who know exactly what I'm talking about. I love the itch to travel, escape the redundancy of my suburban bubble... yet alas, the call of responsibility, growing up, and actually getting something done keeps me coming back here. I find much of my money goes towards travel (okay, and shoes). I could have surmounted an admirable amount for a young, single woman had that cash not gone towards rail in the UK, a hop on southwest to see a friend, gas money to drive to Austin to see sister, and meals, souvenirs and big gulps along the way.
So in order to possibly save money on such trips, I subscribe, like any savvy traveler, to email updates from online travel agencies. Student universe sends me a monthly price tab for airfare to Rome, and Sherman's a weekly random montage of cheap car rental in France, to cheap hotels in Costa Rica. Travel Flea Market offers cheap last minute fares, etc.
But the probelm is... these only tempt me more! I had only a minimal desire to go to Munich for spring break this year... but now that I know if I book this week, I could go for only $411, well... who's coming with me!? (Enter Google: "German drinking songs") Cruise out of Galveston for under $300... I can so swing that!.... This weekend, even! (too bad I have to move this weekend. hrm.)
Hopefully the few trips I have planned this summer will soothe that itch (scratch off a week in New York, Portland, and a week shy of a month in Europe). But it's not likely... I have an exhaustive list of places I'd like to see before I die. My sister recieved a tour catalog, which offers hiking, biking, bus, boat, "enter random mode of transport here" tours prettymuch anywhere in the world. You wanna go, you show up and they'll show ya around. There's even a trip to Antarctica. ANTARCTICA. Who GOES there? Other than scientists? But I was tempted to add it to my list. Why the heck not? I don't think I'll ever visit everywhere on my list... although I'd like to die trying.
What about you? Where would you go?
