Luís Antero/Marcus Küerten - «Stall»
@ <a target="_blank" href="http://bp.bai-hua.org/releases/bp024.htm">Bypass Netlabel</a>

1 - Luís Antero - Stall 01 (12:36)
2 - Marcus Küerten - Stall 02 (12:06)
3 - Zhang JW - Stall Remix (04:16)

Stall is the first collaboration of Luís Antero and Marcus Kuerten and consists of two twelve-minute tracks recorded on location in the Coimbra region in Portugal and the German Rhineland. The pieces present the unadulterated sounds of agronomical livestock production places.

The changes in sound of the Stall recording by Antero are more punctuated and less textured. It captures, based on species noises, the group dynamics of sheep and forms a contrast to the atmosphere recording of the cow stable. Kuerten’s Stall is dominated by the eerie sounds of a claustrophobic setting with ambient noises mainly, but it is also an extensive audible pleasure to listen to the astonishing amount of information.

The final track is an additional remix by the Chinese musician and producer Zhang JW from Beijing. His complex structured piece of music draws a line under a highly recommended work. Enjoy yourself and listen attentive.
                                                                                                                                                                                                     MK

2 - Big Wheel (09:55)
3 - Water Song (Part 2) (03:50)

Location: S. Sebastião da Feira, Oliveira do Hospital, Coimbra, Portugal

Review by Konkretourist:

The working method of Portuguese sound artist and folklore researcher Luís Antero is a rapprochement to the tradition of early North-American field collectors and musicologists at the fin-de-siècle.
His tripartite montage Big Wheel paints an atmospheric landscape and is also an intense excursion. An absolutely breathtaking and heartfelt recital of traditions and improvisations accompanied by brilliant environmental sounds of water mills in the Coimbra region.
The gentle listener will conceive wanderlust and finally, after minutes of pilgrimage, he becomes a resident of a spiritual hermitage and enjoys the light-heartedness of a sober and cloistered life.
Antero’s Big Wheel is infectious, abducts the listener with ease and is an important contribution to the konkretourist label catalogue.

«Watermill EP»
@ <a target="_blank" href="http://bp.bai-hua.org/releases/bp039.htm">Bypass Label</a>

«Sinfonia Amphibia»
@ <a target="_blank" href="http://youarenotstealingrecords.blogspot.com">You Are Not Stealing Records</a>

Field recording of frog life in a community park pond.
Trabalho sonoro realizado no Parque do Mandanelho, Oliveira do Hospital, numa noite de Julho de 2009, com centenas de rãs.... uma espécie de showcase anfibio...

LUIS ANTERO/MARCUS KUERTEN - STALL (MP3 by Bypass)
'The pieces present the unadulterated sounds of agronomical livestock production places', as recorded by Luis Antero (first piece), and Marcus Kuerten (second piece), and a remix of that by Zhang JW from Beijing. He is probably behind this Chinese download label. Its been a while since I visited a farm and heard the call of animals, but the Antero piece is quite nice, with all sheep making noise. The lord is my shepherd, what are we, I kept thinking when hearing this. It has a great minimal music quality to it. Kuerten recorded cows in the stable, but its much less in your face than Antero, and makes a much more atmospheric recording than Antero. Its a nice one, but not as strong as the singing sheep. The remix is something that is best forgotten. A rhythm machine, bad samples and bad synths. (FdW)
