Last Night on MalanDTV Live

Last night I was broadcasting live from my home and I was visited by a girl going by the name "Fembot" from Gliese (glizza) 581 c, a "super-earth" extrasolar planet orbiting the red dwarf star Gliese 581. At this point I'm still not positive who it was but I was intrigued by the fact that she named Gliese 581 C as her home. If anyone knows me they know that is a good answer.

It reminded me of what used to happen to me in high school. My phone would ring at night and girls on the other end of the line would just giggle and laugh and never tell me their name. I'd spend 1/2 an hour trying to figure it out at first and normally I'd get some strange fake name like "Destiny" or "Love" or something like that but over time it grew annoying and if someone didn't say who they were within about 10 seconds I would hang up the phone... I don't know, I guess you grow out of it after a while. It was cute though now... looking back.

Last night I played the guessing game for about 20 minutes but I never found out who it was... one of the last things she said was "Have sweet dreams and tell me them in the morning" and I thought I knew who it was but then it sidetracked and I never found out. So for now... fembot / star girl will have to remain a mystery.

MalanDTV Live is on almost all the time, you can view the channel on Ustream.tv or at malandarras.com/malandtv-live/.

No Power: Day 10

The entire neighborhood around me was lit up last night with Christmas lights as we pulled up to my house, I was excited, happy and hopeful. My body was kind of floating, still feeling the effects of one of the best and most empowering, inspiring weekends of my life and I thought the power being back on would be a bit of icing on the cake...

I entered the house and began flipping switches and alas... nothing. It appears I'm one of the lucky customers that had damage to the actual power structures on my house and might not be part of the 95% that are supposed to have power back on by midnight tonight.

I headed out in search for warmth, internet access and TV (you know, the good stuff). I found it all at the offices of Winnercomm where I spent some time floating around online before finding a decent hotel to stay in for the night. I didn't really feel like staying with friends again, I needed to be alone.

I encased myself in the unfamiliar sheets of a rented room, turned off the lights and said a prayer. A short prayer of thanks for the odd situation I was in, knowing that somehow this was part of a bigger picture... and a larger plan.

Good things

In the last few days some amazing things have happened. I feel like I'm at another major turning point in my life and something great is about to happen. My head is clear, my mind is open, my heart is shining and the God's have placed some very important people in front of me that just might make this dark room a little bit brighter.

To my past I say goodbye, and those involved farewell. I wish you the best in your lives, your struggles and your aspirations and dreams.

Today I am thankful for the sun, the sky and the air that I breathe. The basics.

Don't ever take them for granted.

Cruel Situations

I felt surprisingly well this morning after spending the night on the couch in my office. It took me about 1/2 an hour to find a spot that was comfortable enough to make zzz's in but when I found it I was out. This morning I woke up, got dressed and opened the door, walked out into the hallway and was greeted by several others buzzing around the offices who said "Good morning" and the like and surely believed that I was just then arriving for the day. Little did they know I'd been here all night.

This afternoon, life took a cold swing at my head and caught me square on the chin. The mBox (a Pro Tools audio interface) that I ordered a few weeks ago finally got here... and the city has no power... which means I can't play with it for another week or so. So cruel. How do they know?

Homeless In An Ice Storm

It's night two of the great Oklahoma ice storm 2007. The entire middle of the country was rocked over the last few days with heavy ice... I mean literally heavy ice. So much ice has accumulated on the trees that they are falling down left and right due to the extra weight. Small trees are falling and the giant trees are falling... they're landing on cars, houses, in the middle of the street, everywhere.

I wish I could describe to you the sound that a tree makes when it finally gives up and crashes down under the weight of the ice. At night you hear it, first near your home and the house shakes, then you hear it off in the distance, over and over and over like giant, sporadic dominoes falling down one after the other and just when you think it's over. Wammo, one hits the side of our house and shakes it again.

I'm currently holed up at work in a marketing / advertising agency in South Tulsa that happens to have power. I'm sleeping here tonight on the couch in my office. It's much warmer than my house, has no f*cking animals living in it, has internet access (thank you Lord) and I can be sure that no trees are going to land on me... not this many stories up.

I'll go to sleep now and hope I wake up before too many of my co-workers come in and find me here, passed out in my plaid pajama bottoms, drooling on my pillow on the couch. That would make a helluva photo. But for now, it's time to get some zizzles.

Unexpectedly Expected

Yes, as you may have realized, my website recently went faceless. Again. I could go on explaining here exactly why it happened or what the circumstances were that led up to it happening but I think for now I'm going to skip that and just telly you the plan.

I've been a huge fan of Virb.com (and the designers that made it) for many many years now. I was actually a fan of the design team first. At the time they were called Neubix, a small group of designers that I discovered whilst browsing design award showcase sites who's clean, minimalistic design style won my heart almost instantly. I ravaged there portfolio, probably stole multiple designs and kept an eye on them as they grew rapidly, launched more amazing work, reformed as The Big Noob... and then disbanded and disappeared.

These days they're in full swing again, working together as a team, being active at thebignoob.com and have even come out with a clothing site called Cottyn. Wait, what the fuck am I talking about?

Ok, so I've always wanted to use Virb.com for my music but I had to accept the fact that 99% of the audience is on MySpace, it's a cold hard fact that we have to live with on a daily basis... no matter how clunky the site runs or how horrible the interface is the mass music crowd is there and you have to cater to them if you're going to play the game. But...

These leaves the door open wide to use Virb.com not as my focal music destination but as an all in one music site, design portfolio, blog and photo journal. Over the years I've used Wordpress, almost to the point of exhaustion and although I absolutely love that application to death (ask anyone) I feel like it's time to give Virb a shot and play around within it's holy interior that I've never explored.

So to save you some time and provide a short answer, this is the new digs. Dig It.
