      <description><![CDATA[Winnipeg may be losing two of its music venues this summer. Rumours that have been flying for weeks and are now confirmed: the buildings that hold the Royal Albert Arms and the Collective Cabaret have been sold and may not re-open with live music inside.       <title>Jazz Fest Gears Up</title>

      <description><![CDATA[It's officially summer and in Manitoba, summer equals festivals. With the Winnipeg Folk Festival on the horizon, another music fest is getting ready to take over downtown Winnipeg.

The 2007 COOL Jazz Winnipeg Festival kicks off on June 22 and runs until July 2, bringing with it some of the top names in the jazz genre. Names like Herbie Hancock, Dave Brubeck, Pink Martini, and Madeleine Peyroux are just a hint at this year's schedule.

      <description><![CDATA[Winnipeg-based rock trio Inward Eye will be heading to Chicago in August to play one of the biggest music festivals around: Lollapalooza.

Known for their blistering live shows, the young brothers Erickson - Anders (drums), Kyle (guitar), and Dave (bass) - are sure to win over fans on August 3 with their performance at the BMI stage.

      <title>Manitoba Music at 2007 Winnipeg Folk Festival</title>

      <description><![CDATA[Many of us have dreamed about it while sitting out on our tarps at Birds Hill Park, the sun setting behind the tents, the gentle aroma of Whales Tails wafting through the crowd. We've looked up at the stage and imagined ourselves underneath the lights, in front of the microphone, looking out on thousands of eager audience members.

The Winnipeg Folk Festival has inspired countless people to take up an instrument, practice hard, and start creating. For some, it's a lifelong passion. And for a few, the dream turns into reality.

      <title>Download of the Week: The Duhks</title>

      <description><![CDATA[Just in time for the annual Winnipeg Folk Festival, we've got a free download of <a href="http://www.manitobamusic.com/index.php?pid=10310&mid=11200&oid=868"> The Duhks'</a> "Down to the River" from the band's Juno-nominated release <i>Migrations</i> on Sugar Hill Records. The Duhks will take the Folk Fest's Mainstage on July 5 as well as workshops throughout the weekend before heading off on tour and hitting venues in New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Vermont and more. The quintet, featuring acclaimed new vocalist Sarah Dugas, has just released its performance at the <a href="http://flink.livedownloads.com/show.asp?show=1647&affid=23"> 2007 Merlefest</a> in North Carolina, including a show-stopping guest appearance by Led Zepelin's John Paul Jones performing "Whole Lotta' Love" with the band.
