Manuel, aka manwell eff, grew up in the idyllic island-style country of Mozambique, listening to the Blur, the Beatles and The Rolling Stones. He found his love for dance music through his many trips into the nearby big city of Johannesburg and after school, he made the life-changing move into the middle of it all when he came to South Africa’s dance music epicenter to study and launch a career in web design.
Manwell was soon caught up and drawn into the darkness of the local nightlife where he followed his feet through a maze of music genres and found himself loving the House and Trance sounds. In 2003 he went on a 2 year stint to London, where whilst working, he gained perspective on this incredible music scene and a knowledge beyond previous exposure. While still abroad he set himself up and got keenly behind the decks, playing House on vinyl. His ear however developed towards a more edgy, industrial sound and he quickly moved onto Progressive and then Deep Tech styles of music.
His taste for techno tinged beats advanced consistently, and now sees his sound repertoire dominating in Techno and Minimal Techno flavour, citing Green velvet, Audion, Evil Eddie Richards and Francis Harris aka Adultnapper as muse’s to his distiguished uplifting tech sound.
Recalling their first memorable gig, a 4 hour daybreak session at the dingy but dear Escobar in Fourways, “We came on at 3am and were surprised to see everyone still rocking on without a care in the world! Two hours in and suddenly, the club had surged with even more people- there was no room to dance! We couldn’t believe it was 7am on a Sunday morning and these people still wanted to jam!”
