Virb Has Become the "New" High School

Don't you hate people who think that they're better than you? Yet, at times, You find yourself doing it to other people. I was reading Nova's blog and she had a post about Elitists on Virb. It inferiates me when people think that somehow, they are in someway a better person than you. And there for, you have no right to be their friend. I signed up for Virb a while ago, after stumbling upon it from a friends blog. I thought it looked awesome, so I signed up for an account. After that, I didn't do a whole lot. None of my friends where on here. And the only person that I sort of knew was Leo Laporte (who doesn't seem to be active on his). So I left it alone for a couple months.

I just got back on it, after Leo mentioned it again on one of his podcasts. I've been doing stuff on here since. You may ask, Why does this matter? Well, After I got back on here, I was browsing around the groups. Then I stumbled upon CSS+Virb, an "Invite Only" group in which the people with the prettiest layout get to join. I sat there a little while and thought to myself, Wow, This is a fashion contest. No joke.

Now back to Nova's blog post. She brought up a point that, Shouldn't you be helping the newbies, instead of creating a group that says "We're better than you". This seems like a popularity contest. Instead of fashion and money, it's who has the best design. Then the newbies get shoved to the back of the line. Just like in high school during lunch. This site is about networking and getting to know new people. If you blow the newbies off, you'll end up with the same old friends. It's to make friends and have fun.

I propose this to every Virb member. If a newbie asks for your help, find a way to help them. If they want to be you're friend, then add them. The least you're going to get out of adding someone unfamiliar, is a little spam. If that happens, It's really easy to unfriend someone. People shouldn't have to jump through hoops to make friends. Do you make your friends fill out applications before they can become your friend? I hope not.

This is a simple plea, that I know will affect few. But please, be kind, and don't be a jerk on Virb.

(Note: This is especially for Mac users. Listen to MacBreak Weekly episode 78, If you don't know what I'm talking about).
