Monsters Build Mean Robots

Brighton, United Kingdom

Billboard

"MBMR's self-titled debut draws from a diverse bank of influences, mixing equal parts processed beats with soft vocals and artful arrangements. There are echoes of Sigor Ros and Explosions in the Sky on the beautiful 'The Freedom To Fire Those Freedom Rockets,' which deploys tremolo guitar licks and swirling atmospherics to devastating effect.
However, it's not all sweeping atmospherics and political referencing. Opening track 'Do Uncles Dream of Electric Kids' shares the familiar bassline grumble of an Aphex Twin song, and transitions seamlessly into the electric drum-loop laden 'Stroll Into Flames To Find Self.' " - Artrocker

"The muted pneumatics of the opening track crumble into the softly crunching beats the second and slowly the guitars begin to reveal themselves, like analogue rays slicing through a digital mist. Exemplified in Chimes Breakthrough Light to Reach Us which sounds like a less tangible Errors or much of the Leaf Label releases, the dusky revere breathes through in a gentle rhythm, completely engrossing. Wow" - Brighton Source

CHIMES BREAKTHROUGH LIGHT TO REACH US, TUCKED UP IN BED, COSY, WELL FED, BUT NOT HERE FOR SLEEP. "HIGH TIME YOU DID SOMETHING WITH YOUR LIFE". "HIGH TIME YOU GOT A JOB". HIGH TIME IS NOT JOB TIME. WORK SLEEP WORK SLEEP WORK SLEEP MONEY COMES MONEY GOES WORK SLEEP WORK SLEEP WORK SLEEP. I AM NOT HAPPY WITH THE RATIO. LOSERS LAY IN BED. LOSERS GO TO WORK. EITHER WAY IS THERE ESCAPE? MORPHINE IS NOT AN ANSWER MERELY A STATIC SOLUTION. THEY DONT BOTHER TO PUT IT IN THE WATER ANYMORE THEY ACTUALLY HAVE THE GUILE TO SELL IT TO YOU. MORPHINE OR JACK JOHNSON? DADDY OR CHIPS.
