About

Welcome to MEGATECH on Virb.com.

My DJ name, "megatech," is taken from a famous film, in which it is the name of a company that manufactures of cyborg bodies. Megatech Corporation produces not identities, but corporeal shells as it were, which distinct selves or identities ("ghosts") will later animate.

My goal as a DJ is to create moods that provoke and give rise to new ideas and feelings. Using existing media and material, a skilled DJ creatively brings about new combinations and possibilities. Looking forward to a long journey that promises unforeseen potential for growth and development, I can think of no higher goal for myself as a DJ than to produce musical space that will be animated and enlivened by newly created life forms.

A short history:

A native of New York City, I have been attracted to music from a young age. I initially began playing the cello when I was young, and soon switched to the piano. In my early teens I began playing guitar, an instrument with which I fell in love...a love which I still haven't fallen out of. Gradually my musical interest developed and changed, and in my late teens I became intrigued by the sounds of drum & bass after first hearing mixes played to me by a friend.

A few years later I gradually saved up enough money for turntables, and started buying records. Initially playing hip-hop, obsession with drum & bass soon eclipsed other musical styles, as I began to hone my skills and build a formidable arsenal of vinyl.

My initiation into the drum & bass community deepened during a few years spent in the Boston area, where I regularly attended the legendary Elements and started playing house parties and some other local events. While in Boston, I also hosted a weekly college radio show for some time, which featured live DJs and guest MCs from the local hip-hop and d&b communities.

Now I am once again expanding into new realms, and am developing an interest in the sounds of minimal techno and house. Recently I created an organization called innermission, dedicated to the expansion of drum & bass, electronic music, and underground hip-hop at Naropa University and in its local community of Boulder, Colorado.

While innermission is currently in stasis, MEGATECH is beginning to become more active, with live sets being received favorably by local residents. My current interests are in honing my skills, increasing live appearances and releasing high-quality mixes, but also in branching out to explore further styles of minimal techno and house. I also hope to deepen and build upon my relationships with others in the electronic dance music scene, by connecting with DJs, producers, and others involved both locally and globally in drum & bass, house and techno and other spheres of the dance music scene.

I have uploaded some recordings of mix sessions to this page, and more are forthcoming. Please feel free to download or stream the audio posted here, and if you are so inclined, to share it freely with others.

In addition, I have posted some links to resources for drum & bass and electronic dance music which I plan to expand upon later. If you are interested in going deeper in the direction of electronic music but aren't sure where to begin, I hope some of the links I've posted may be helpful to you.

Thanks for visiting, and stay tuned...
