This is my last week at my current job. After 6 months I took a step back and thought about what I wanted out of my career and how my current job was helping me achieve those goals--and after a lot of thinking I realized it wasn't. I realized that I was only getting a paycheck, not the experience or the learning that I want from the thing I spend all day every day doing. With that in mind I've decided to leave my job and work full time on revamping my portfolio. It was a tough decision, what with the sky falling and all right now, but I realized I am the most flexible at this time in my life. I don't have a car or the expenses that come with it, I don't have a mortgage that I'm locked into, nor do I have children that I'm responsible for. My monthly expenses are low and I can live off my savings for about 6 months with no work coming in. I'll be freelancing much more heavily, and hopefully within a couple months I'll be in a position to get the kind of job I want to spend my life doing. It's going to be scary, but I think the rewards outweigh the risk.
Wish me luck.
