IT Industry analyst which basically means I spend a lot of my time looking at the technology market analyzing strategies of vendors and studying consumer/societal trends that influence technology adoption. Right now, my primary focus is on social social networking, microblogging (Twitter), and the intersect between social networks and identity.
One area that I am researching is how social media and social networks help with corporate social responsibility, advocacy and community outreach efforts. Another area I am looking into is how social media and social networks help organizations address shifting workforce demographics as younger workers enter the workplace with different expectations and technology experiences than previous generations.

I would love to see a credible/viable open source option emerge that can support a distributed and/or federated model for social network sites. Still hopeful that Apache SocialSite Project Incubation Status can gain traction.
