MimiCof is the electronic project of Kyoto-based composer/musician Midori Hirano. As a child, she began piano lessons and continued music studies on through university. After graduation, she began to compose music in her own way by blending computer textures with traditional music theory.
Since 2003, Midori has been rigorously engaged musical activity. Her main work has been in production, remixing, and collaborating with other Japanese and overseas artists' works, including output by Shugo Tokumaru, O.lamm, and Ryan Francesconi. In 2006, she released the album Lush Rush on MIDI Creative/Noble (Japan) and also participated in various label compilations, contributing pieces under the name of Midori Hirano.
In early 2007, Midori started the new project as MimiCof to shift focus more toward the electronic components which previously played only a supporting role in her songs. Her penchant for working behind the boards with other electronic artists combined with her grasp on theory has enabled a stealth-like approach at composing and arranging in within the medium. The overall approach is different than the Midori Hirano works, based mainly on acoustic instrumentation. The piece "Seeds from the Sun" is a prime example of the shift. Here, bells and keys set atop robust percussion set a solid foundation for the swarming vocals and digital glitch that emerge in the foreground. Other MimiCof compositions follow suit, providing an outlet for the inevitable fusion of Hirano's tastes and abilities.

Haha. Kochirakoso yoroshiku! Really can't wait to hear the MimiCof album Midori ... I really like the song that's on the OE comp. Hopefully the Jatun CD gets to you soon ... I hate it when crap gets stuck in US customs. It took 3 weeks for my CD to get to a friend in Germany, which is just crazy. Hope all is well with you! - Scott
