About

Hello/welcome. My name is Caleb, and I make music under the name Misty Aeons.

For the time being (as a student) there may be limited recordings of my original songs. This is disappointing to me. (Also, the majority of songs that I've written and recorded were meant for the project found at the very bottom of this paragraph – therefore the only original material I will post here will be songs that were not meant for said project.) However, I will produce music with my commitment to a resolution I made for the year two-thousand nine: record one cover (read: another artist’s song) each month, starting with the month of January, through December, and, once finished, release all the songs on a full album for a so-called official release. In the meantime, each song will be available for download. This resolution was inspired by the same thing that Jimmy Tamborello (of Dntel, James Figurine, and The Postal Service) did this last year. I amended my resolution, however, so that I would record a one-hundred percent acoustic cover in January, and incrementally shift towards one-hundred percent electronic cover by June (over the six month timeframe), and then back to December in a reverse fashion. That way, I can explore the various ideas/concepts/techniques behind various genres/strains/kinds of music.

All of the songs on this page have been self-recorded in my bedroom or at various other places using my MacBook and the studio equipment I've picked up over the past few years. I record, edit, mix, and bounce everything myself using Logic Studio. Sometimes I help out and record other bands like Streetlight Society. I also occasionally remix songs, and you're welcome to drop me a track and its stems for me to remix if you just want to have some fun hearing your song done differently. And collaboration is never a bad idea, either. Email or message me to talk – I'm around most of time to discuss things. (I also do all my own album art, so if you ever want some art for your own music/projects/albums let me know.)

Please also look up my other musical endeavor with the wonderful Geena Barker, which we've named These Cages.

“There are immeasurable star misty aeons of universes more numerous than the sands in all the galaxies, multiplied by a billion lightyears of multiplication, in fact if i were to go on you'd be scared and couldn't comprehend and you'd despair so much you'd drop dead," that's what he just about said in one of those sutras – macrocosms and microcosms and chillicosms and microbes and finally you get all these marvelous books a man ain’t even got time to read em all … (expressing exactly the way I feel, of course). Jack Kerouac

Since spring of last year I’ve been posting a cover song every month for free download on my website. It’s been nice to play around and make music without worrying about the hardest part (that whole songwriting thing). The song selection process was very spontaneous – it just worked out that every month, in my mp3 shuffle listening routine, I’d stumble on some song that I wanted to cover. It’s not about feeling like I have something to say about the song or that I think I can make a better version, it’s just about appreciating a song and wanting to force my way into its life. Jimmy Tamborello

Realizations, Part III: Regarding Kerouac & Resolutions (10.21.09)

This entry comes on the anniversary of Jack Kerouac’s death, October 21st, 1969 (he was 47), which is fitting for some of the material that I will cover with Part III. Unlike the last time I celebrate...

Realizations, Part I: Regarding August 19th (10.19.09)

Exactly two months ago to the day, I woke up early in the morning to gather my belongings, loaded up the car, bid my beloved dog farewell (knowing that it would be our last moment together), and drove...

A Long-Overdue Report (7.2.09)

So July was just born yesterday, and I have but three completed covers, one original song, and four months of explaining to do, even if only for myself. My lack of musical creation has been noticed by...

March: Texas

A pocket of time, with so little to say. For once, I have few words to describe the making of this cover of the song “Texas” by Daniel Hunter of PlayRadioPlay! off the album Texas. You see, if you rea...

We Feel Fine (4.26.09)

I hate to say this, but I'm just probably not going to finish the cover's for March or April. This is quite annoying to me – I mean, come on! It's a song in thirty days! How difficult can that be? Wel...
