I'll get to the house pics eventually. I took some before we moved in, and it was just a crappy day and since then, we still have the miscellaneous box here or there that I'd like to get out of the way before I take some more. Today looks like it will be a nice day, so maybe it will happen today.
A couple of weeks ago there were two nearly consecutive holidays here (Labor day and End of WWII), so we headed up to a friend's Aunt's house for the long weekend. I'll do a second post on the house because it was pretty dope, but these are from a long walk we took to Saint-Savin, the nearest town.
It was a pretty cool walk because you walk along the old rail line, so one minute it would drop off into a valley, and the next the rail line would be cut through the rock. Cars drive down this pathway now, although not as a major thoroughfare or anything, just as a short cut for locals.
Here is a shot approaching Saint-Savin. The yellow is, I believe, what they make Canola oil from, and this stuff is killing me right now. Happened last year, and I am almost over this years 'Springtime cold', which I believe is 100% contributed to this stuff-
In Saint-Savin, you have your everday, run of the mill 11th century Abbey (might have been 10th, the jump in numbers, ie 10th being 1100's, always screws my memory up)-
Will 11th century frescos on the ceiling-
And through our little walk in the town, there was of course a bakery-
What you don't see in little French villages are 7-11s, full of Snickers, Big Gulps and Reeses Peanut Butter Cups (although they do have those places, almost solely reserved for the Autoroute, or highway). Instead, you get that. It isn't much of a contest.
