a double of whiskey
sitting half empty
as he hears the final call
dreaming of days when
things'll be as they'd been
before he dropped the ball
like things were in the 80's
his beautiful babies and
the public eye
so just like a movie
he'll pack up his SUV
to take back his former life
there was a day
wayne was on a roll
but he got a taste
for ladies, booze and blow
all his best friends
now just acquaintances
fake graces and other plans
but wayne has high hopes
just like a palindrome
to end up where he began
he would fail his mission
when the competition rolled
a perfect game
so what to do now?
sit in the alley lounge
in hopes to numb the pain
all was for not
wayne can finally see
money has never bought him anything he needs
bar lights marketing smoke
color his skin with a neon glow as
he sits to shoulder alone
the weight of his failures
the brickyard hoax
he learned that money can't buy you love
his major investment was living it up
there's nothing left to show for it
