The sleek-folk genre benders calling themselves motopony began making music in 2007 when front-pony Daniel Blue was possessed by an unknown force that demanded he find audible methods to occur her manifestation. With a sudden lung full of Holiday and a mouth full of Cash, Blue began grasping desperately at whatever music making device was in range. A broken three stringed guitar became the launch pad for their first album.
With no experience or preconception, Blue began spellbinding audiences with rare droning harmonies, poetic lyrics, and a vocal quality that was as shocking as it was haunting. "The first time I heard Daniel Blue sing, I was astounded. Jaw-slack, “where-the-f-did-this-guy-come-from” astounded...his voice will eat up your insides. Daniel is what would have happened if Leonard Cohen had gotten Janis Joplin pregnant. (Paul Shrag, Weekly Volcano)
Seattle folk legend, Barton Carroll, upon sharing the stage with Blue at a "round", was spiritually manipulated into co-producing the first effort with Hip-hop Producer Buddy Ross. Ross' unique digital beat mastery combined with Carroll's 100% analog methodology has created an altogether unique offering reminiscent of Donavan, Dylan, and Van Morrison, blended seamlessly with the bio-computed groove of Air, Daft Punk and Coco Rosie.
True to the umber feminine spirit that he believes himself to be under the control of, Blue's performance is diabolical in its wizardry and heart pulling craft. Captivating and trance inducing, motopony music is a cult meeting on voodoo-sonic steroids in the digital desert of the American dream.
