The curly stays are a re-creation of Hetchins bicycles made in England back in the 60's and 70's. I don't know if they do anything functionally or if they're purely decorational. I tend to think it's just for looks, though one guy at a bike shop said it might help absorb shocks. That's one guy, everyone else just says it's for looks.
I got this frame off of ebay. The thing is, I saw this very bike on Coast's gallery page about a year ago when I first started checking out custom frame builders. I couldn't stop drooling. So imagine my excitement when a couple of weeks ago I see the frame up on ebay. Now that I have it I'm giddy, like I'm dating a childhood crush.
