to find one's self in a dilemna between morality and reality is the human condition. to believe one thing and act in contradiction to that belief is the ultimate despair. the knowledge of one's own intellectual integrity being compromised. when faced with the dilemna presented, one has the responsibility of action in either direction. the choice is presented and cannot be ignored. if inaction is the course of action to be taken, it is taken with purpose and cannot be called truly an "inaction." one must work to keep one's self ignorant of morality and reality. it is an active word.. ignorant.
in the context of history i find myself placed within, i cannot consciously choose to feign ignorance and plead silence. i must act. the man who sits by and watches evil committed does, in truth, commit his own kind of evil. the man who watches the narrative of time play out in front of him and rejects the role he has been handed is no man at all. he has already compromised his integrity and no longer lives in hope, but in the despair of his contradicting beliefs. with our mouths we proclaim a great many things so as to make up for the lack of depth within us. but the man who avoids speeches and statements, the man whose actions alone define his existence. he is the true superman. but only in comparison to the ignorant inactive men he is surrounded by. we know instinctively what needs doing, it is merely a question of who will actually act upon their beliefs and rid themselves of the contradiction. there is no reward for integrity because it is no higher an act than breathing to sustain life, it should go without saying.
but history persists.. and the despair continues. the world is not as it could be. a thing's full potential is how it was created to be. anything less is not the proper use of it. this world, these handful of societies, these nations, we are so much more. let we settle for so much less. what utter despair and madness this is..
