Devon: Hip Hop Feuds: 50 Cent vs. Rick Ross

Ever wanted to get back at a mortal enemy? Do you have hundreds of millions of dollars at your disposal? Then do what 50 Cent did to Rick Ross!

Although I love a very wide array of music, ive always had a soft spot for hip hop. Maybe it's the production, maybe it's the swagger, but it's probably because following hip hop feuds is like watching a cartoon - it's PURE entertainment.

Long story short, Miami rapper Rick Ross, who is known in the industry as "the boss", recently started dissing 50 Cent out of nowhere on a local radio station. So, instead of going on his own radio tirade, 50 contacted Rick's ex-girlfriend, with whom he has a child, flew her up to New York City to get HER to personally diss him, including a giant reveal of all his dirt (including the fact that he's really broke, despite claiming to have $10 million in diamonds, his home may go into foreclosusure, he WAS a corrections officer before becoming a rapper, he leases all his cars, doesn't support his children, and also dates and has a child with a known prostitute in Miami...no judging, however, not the kind of info you want revealed in public).

Oh, and to make things worse, he takes her on a giant shopping spree...

Enjoy.

Vanity Fair's latest issue includes the much celebrated yearly Hollywood Portfolio shot by the amazing Annie Leibovitz. This time the theme is partnerships, as in director/actor with that certain spark of magic to create a memorable movie. Sam Mendes & Kate Winslet (Revolutionary Road), Meryl Streep & John Patrick Shanley (Doubt), Heath Ledger & Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight... the photos are simple, stark, gorgeous and full of character. Check 'em out.

Sarah: Coffee; Shaun Boothe

Have you ever had a traditional Ethiopian coffee presentation? It's pretty amazing. Since coffee originates from Ethiopia (named after the Kaffa region) it's no surprise how good it is. Usually the coffee beans are roasted before your eyes (extra long, to minimize caffeine) then ground and pressed to be poured and served with Frankincense.

I recently had to choose a location for an interview and decided I needed warm, comfortable, beautiful ambiance so I chose my favorite Ethiopian restaurant called Addis Ababa. If you've never checked out Ethiopian cuisine you have to... it's awesome.

Aster, the owner also has a pretty amazing Ethiopian cookbook that you can check out here.

The interview I did was with a Toronto artist named Shaun Boothe who spoke to me about his new 3D mixed tape and his thoughts on Black History Month. He is also behind the Unauthorized Biography series which features 12 videos of 12 icons put to original music written and produced by Shaun. My favorites are Muhammed Ali and Bob Marley but check them all out yourself. Both Ali and Marley's families have contacted Shaun to offer their gratitude and approval of the videos so I guarantee you won't be disappointed!

Look out for my interview with Shaun on MuchNews soon!

Happy Black History Month

Earworm Of The Week: 3OH!3 - Don't Trust Me

Oh my. This one of the rare instances where I literally know next to nothing about the band I'm posting about, so let's do this on the fly.

I heard 3OH!3's song Don't Trust Me for the first time today and I'm positively addicted to it. Don't Trust Me is a dangerously catchy and danceable song that I pray I'll hear in at a bar as soon as humanly possible - if not by accident, then when I shove my way to the DJ booth and put the track on myself.

3OH!3 (three oh three) are from Boulder, Colorado and their name (unsurpisingly) represents the Boulder district area code.

The song's got some questionable lyrics ("Dont trust a ho / never trust a ho", "shoosh girl, shut your lips / do the Helen Keller and talk with your hips.) but I mean, does it really matter when the melody's so infectious it won't leave your mind all day? Check the video below and try not to toe tap.

More 2009 Junos Performers Announced...Nominees Imminently

The 2009 Junos are coming to CTV on Sunday, March 29 from Vancouver's GM Place and three megawatt performers have just been added to the performance bill - City And Colour, Nickelback and Simple Plan were just confirmed.

The nominees are being announced later today, but so far we know that there are a few honourees: Loverboy will be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, and Sarah McLachlan will receive the Allan Waters Humanitarian Award.

Do you guys watch the Junos? Will you watch this year (if only to check out Simple Plan's performance)? I have never actually watched the Junos since they don't represent the segment of Canadian music that I listen to. What about you?

Juno Nom Nom Nom

It's a good day to be Nickelback. Not only will they be performing at the Junos, but it was just announced that they lead all other honourees with five nominations. It's the big'uns too - Album of the Year, Single of the Year, Group of the Year... and how heartwarming that they got a nomination for "Something In Your Mouth"!!

Sam Roberts got four nominations (including two for Video of the Year), Celine and Hedley got three each (including Songwriter of the Year for Hedley, respect), and Feist is still kickin with two nominations. Kardi was awarded a nomination for Single of the Year ("Dangerous", natch) as well as Rap Recording of the Year (it could be argued that he deserved an Artist of the Year nom over Bryan Adams or KD Lang, I'd say).

The International Album of the Year nominees are kind of weird - Chinese Democracy? Metallica's Death Magnetic? Jack Johnson's Sleep Through The Static? Or how about The Stills getting a nomination for New Group of the Year?! That's so Grammys. Crystal Castles are also in that category, so at least not everything gets my suspicious sideways glance. Oh, and I guess Steven Page's cocaine arrest didn't hurt Barenaked Ladies' chance of getting a Best Children's Album nomination - but will it hurt their chances of winning?

Yes, these are things I will ponder in depth, day and night, losing sleep until the awards air on March 29. Oh, how I will ponder...

See all nominees HERE.

Christian Bale Freakout: The Remix & The Mae Shi Tribute Song

Man oh man - if you haven't heard this already you're in for a trip. Someone has set the original Christian Bale Terminator: Salvation freakout to techno and completely remixed it. IT IS AMAZING. I can't stop listening to it. I want it on my iPod NOW.

NOTE: This is littered with f-bombs. So, you know, wear headphones.

UPDATE: My newest favourite band, The Mae Shi, have written and uploaded a song about the freakout less than 24 hours after the audio was originally posted and it's called R U Professional. With original lyrics about The Dark Knight, Empire Of The Sun, American Psycho and all of Christian's movies. AMAZING WORK.

Christian Bale Freakout: Remix

The Mae Shi: R U Professional

R U Professional lyrics:
[Christian Bale audio clip: What the f**k are you doing? Are you professional or not? No! No!. Shut the fk up!]

R U professional?
R U pro-pro-pro-professional?
R U professional?
R U professional?
R U professional?

He's got that look in his eyes
I see the fire behind
He is the Dark Knight
He is professional

He's got that (?) behind
But maybe something ain't right
Swing Kid with a violent streak
But he's professional

Ohhhoh
He is professional
But I think he's lost control
2x

R U professional?
[Christian Bale audio clip: F**k's sake, you're amateur]
R U pro-pro-pro-professional?

Empire Of The Sun
He was like number one
(?) sense of humour
You can't stop him, he's professional

Step back, stay out of his light
Better try not to put up a fight
Newsies will get you tonight
Cause they're professional

Ohhhoh
He is professional
But I think he's lost control
4x

[Christian Bale audio clip: Seriously man, you and me, we're f**king done professionally]

Don't look too deep in his eyes
You can't hide what's inside of his mind
And it might get a little bit ugly
And you might meet an American Psycho

Ohhhoh
He is professional
But I think he's lost control
3x

[Christian Bale audio clip: Oh GOOD for you!]

PS: Czech out this Senor Bale sound board and ensure that you do nothing else all day...
