joon was formed in late march of 2005 by shayne soderstrom and eddy varella. they wrote all of the songs they performed (with the exception of a cover of the faces' "ooh la la") for their first show within two weeks. that first performance was a headlining spot at the historical polk theatre under the name "bastard sons of time and space". opening for them were a handfull of garage acts, one of which was a punk band named trick. members of each band got along right away. the bastard sons changed their name to joon after realizing no one could remember their original moniker, and that highschools had banned their fliers from being posted. late that year, trick dissolved and lead singer, justin james, joined joon on bass and guitar. about one year later, eddy parted ways with joon and they invited a local indie musician, john crayon (aka john baker), to take the spot. he joined and the band soon went to work on their debut album, "the uncanny valley," which was finally released on july 11th of 2007.
