In the spring of 2005, I was asked to contribute incidental sound to a multimedia performance entitled Graffiti, which ran at the American Repertory Theatre's Loeb X Black Box Theatre in April. I had recently finished work on Auswartige Amt, a collection of my radio and sound art pieces, and decided to compose some new material for the show in addition to those excerpted from the new album. A series of Interludes and a longer piece - “Attack Warning” - were the new contributions. “Faders” was my favorite of the bunch: it features a random fragment of Bulgarian choral singing which I had looped and phased beneath a glitchy shortwave hiccup. “Attack Warning” was an improvised piece for drum machine, sampler, ring modulator, and CONELRAD recording which uses a radically slowed-down clip of 1960s shortwave time code to simulate the attack warning signal.
