Death Walks the Streets

I'm all about new media and marketing.

I've seen the incredible response from fans influenced by effective and ineffective web juggernauts.

We can't easily overlook the phenomena that was BLAIR WITCH PROJECT, fueled by a fantastic web presence and an excellent on air marketing ploy by Artisan Pictures, nor can we forget the dismal failure that was SNAKES ON A PLANE . Even with an incredible web 2.0 push and a satisfactory television campaign, it failed to fly.

Now comes an "independent" movie that is not even shooting it's first scene as of this date. It hosts a Myspace fan following 14,000 strong and is marketing clothing based on their film. A film that doesn't exist.

There is some speculation whether this is even a movie that will ever be shot, but I must say it's one I would like to see. And these guys are incredible marketeers. They are every online. Myspace, Youtube, and assortment of horror sites. It's incredible the buzz for a movie that hasn't even put it's first scene in the can.

Now for the bad part

Their main character is named ABADDON. My script has nothing to do with this possible flick, other then the name of the character, and some mob ties with the protagonist, but the fact that anything is similar between the two is annoying to me.

I think the script to Abaddon is a much stronger premise. It's familiar, yet unique. The problem lies with the creative control of characters and any similarity between the two properties. I'd hate to accidentally copy what they have already created.. Unfortunately, there is little out there about the actual characters, so it's hard to know if I need to change anything in my work.

This sucks.

I'll keep you posted.
