Lament of days gone by

To try and get some more readers for the e-novel "ArchAngelxx" by Maxwell Cynn I am planning to reformat it and present it as a series on BlogSpot. I'm also going to propagate that blog to Maxwell's Virb blog and his MySpace page. That should make the story more available to a larger audience.

The problem on the net these days is driving traffic to a new sight without spending a fortune on ads. Google is ruled by big money ads and you can't get your page anywhere near the top of search results without either paying big or gaming the system.

When I first started on the net, back in the 90's, promoting a page just took some time and energy. I started Christian Underground Ministries on free webspace and submitted the link to all of the big search engines. Soon I had hundreds of subscribers viewing the weekly sermons and signing up for the mailing list. The net was a smaller place, things were easy to find, and it was easy to be seen.

Today if you try to search for anything you are spammed with a hundred ads. You can't find information on a subject but you can find a hundred companies who want to sell you related products. Big business has taken over the net and pushed small business and free information into the backwaters of the net. The nature of the beast I guess. Back in the day there were not many people on the net but information about any and everything was easy to find. The nets popularity has made it a tempting target for advertisers. So now there is even more out there but it is harder and harder to get to.
