Norm Skipp is a New Zealand composer/sonic artist, video artist and online editor/compositor currently based in Manchester, U.K.
He works primarily in the acousmatic medium often collaborating with other artists to create works such as ‘Safe In Sound’ and ‘Feast’ (with fellow composer Paul Booth); multileveled works blending sonic art, butoh, theatre, video art and instrumental performance.
His video and sound work has been performed in New Zealand, Australia, U.S.A., U.K., France and Canada.
Recent works include: ‘Beyond Skin’; a mixed media dance collaboration with choreographer Kathleen Skipp, ‘Of Breath’, a duo for clarinet and electronic sounds with live processing, with clarinettist Gretchen Dunsmore, ‘The Right to Remain Silent’ which was realised at CCMIX in Paris in early 2007. In 2008 he began collaborating as _scape with his brother Rod Skipp to create ‘ftb’ for wind quintet and electronic sounds with live processing and other improvised live electronic works such as ‘858’. He is currently collaborating with Australia based dancer/choreographer Gabrielle New on a trilogy of works, the first of which was performed in Melbourne in November 2009.
