This is another way of collecting water in Africa. It is a gutter that delivers rain water to a cistern below for storage. You will see these in a lot of places that do not have nearby wells.

This pond is actually the water source for several small villages in the northern region. While there are some wells in the area, most are too far for people to walk to in the 100 degree temperatures. The water found here is used for drinking water, bathing, washing clothes and dishes, and is shared with the animals. It is water like this that causes much of the disease and suffering found around the world.

A very dry field near the watering holes at Mole National Park. I was hoping to get some photos of the animals to show everyone, but the land is so dry right now that they have moved on until the rains return. This field is normally full of elephants, antelope, water buck, baboons, wart hogs, and all sorts of birds.

This is a close up of some of the plants destroyed by the wild fires in the north. This is very close to a bore hole dug by the Ghanaian government for the town of Larabanga. This would be well is in need of a pump, but the village is unable to raise the money for it.

During the dry season in Ghana wild fires destroy much of the vegetation in the north. Last time I was on this road there was so many trees that I couldn't see 15 feet back, but as you can see in this picture the fires have destroyed much of the land.

This is a well near the Village of Hope orphanage that the majority of the nearby town collects their water from. All the wells near the Village of Hope are full of salt as it is very close to the ocean.

This girl was walking along the path we were digging a new well on. She is using an old paint bucket with dried paint lining the inside to collect salt water from nearby wells.
