What is the Olympic ?

The former movie theatre Olympic cinéma was built in 1927. It is known as the cinema where French movie director Jacques Demy (who produced Une chambre en ville and Les parapluies de Cherbourg) discovered the 7th art and held his preview of Lola. At the beginning of the 70s, the Olympic was turned into a supermarket, then disused for almost ten years.

In 1987, young entrepreneurs reopened it and organized concerts. In 1990, the Nantes municipality bought the cinema and, from 1993 to 1995, fully renovated it. The Olympic in its current form opened in September 1995. The Nantes City council entrusted the Olympic- facilities and artistic and cultural project- to a non-lucrative association, Songo.
