The Orchid formed during the winter of 2005. At first there were only two members, Haley Thomas (violin and vocals) and Derrick Dixon (guitar and piano). The two worked for almost two years writing and composing music derived from eclectic influences such as PJ Harvey, Sarah Slean, The Cranberries, Sarah Harmer, traditional scottish music, old time country and indie rock. After a long search for other musicians, The Orchid has blossomed with the additions of bassist Jon Harvey, drummer Ryan Gray, and guitarist Kevin Mombourquette. Now with a full line up, the group comes across full, dark and energetic on stage. The music has evolved into a highly emotional live experience with expressive lyrical content and enthusiastic musicianship.
