"Parson & Skint's "Big Killaz" is a pestle-and-mortar groove whose grind fills the air with reverb-motes"
- Simon Reynolds
Headphone Commute:
With 2007 bathing in grime, it seems that everyone is ready to jump on the dubstep wagon. But with a sudden saturation of new artists and material, how does one decipher and pick out the standouts. We could thank Mary Anne Hobbs and her acclaimed BBC Radio sessions, as well as an excellent Warrior Dubz compilation on Planet Mu that served as a good stepping stone into the world of dubstep. The label followed up with 12" releases from Pinch, Benga, MRK1, and my current subject, a debut release from Parson. Based out of Austin, Texas, Chris Parson drops immensely h-e-a-v-y bass over dark step with chopped vocals with a definitive unique US hip-hop flavor. With the help of Skint, the B-side is just as dirty ("filthy" if you will), vibrating my neighbors baby carriage across the street. This two track EP also secured a spot on 10 Tons Heavy and 200 compilations from Planet Mu. And if the wide vinyl grooves are too much for your expensive needles, pick up the lossless FLAC version from bleep.com. Be sure to also grab Parson's Ghostliner EP with a remix by Distance on Dubline Audio.
Boomkat:
Immense, impossibly-heavy dubstep from Parson, his debut for Planet Mu. Carrying on the trend for familiar tunes slowed down and mashed up good and proper, Parson has quite possibly delivered the biggest tune in dubstep for 2007 with "Throw Some Ds" - seriously seriously heavy, impossibly filthy business that's so simple and demented it will destroy dark spaces across the land for months to come. "Big Killaz" on the flip holds its own, more vocal reductions (courtesy of Skint) and incredibly tight production making for easily the most weighty twelve on Planet Mu for quite some time. Shocking stuff - Essential Purchase!
Pitchfork Media:
The Best International Newcomer category is one to watch for future stars, not just because the producers are newcomers but also because they're international. Separated from the birthplace of the scene, by geography if not in spirit, they have the opportunity to forge their own unique identity, indebted to their influences and surroundings.... More original is Parson (download Tractor Pull mix here). His style might be exactly the kind of warping dark halfstep you'd expect from Youngsta or Hench, but it's saved by a Texan twist. Screwed and chopped hip-hop vocals give Parson a uniquely U.S. flavor-- essential if he's to add to the healthy momentum that he generated for himself in 06.

Sub Stance review in Mixmag:

Global dubstep
If there was any doubt about how far and fast dubstep has spread, here is Belgian label Aeclectrick with a selection of rude productions from across Europe and America. America's Parson come with sharp electro stabs and a dark voiceover about skull-drilling. Danish crew Grand Danois manipulate echo like old Jamaican dub professors. The German bleeps and orgasmic gasps of Dutty Dubz's 'Gameboy Love' are both funny and twisted. TRG bring acid burps and a fierce warehouse techno crunch from Romania. Belgium's own Conneticut and Bunzer0 have the crispest production. The winner, though, is dubstep itself -
conquering the world, territory by territory.
