My wife and I went vinyl shopping at local vinyl emporium Used Kids Records. We go occasionally looking for used vinyl to add to our ever growing collection, and since we purchased an Ion portable USB turntable (we already have a regular turntable), but this one lets us put our current collection right on the computer. We buy vinyl for a number of reasons, one being the artwork. Sorry, for some albums, you can't get the full impact of their artwork onto a CD (I'm not anti-Compact Disc, or digital download) , and you sure as hell don't get to appreciate the artwork in a digital only format. That's just me though. One of the other reasons is, well, you can't get some of the older stuff (12" singles, EPs, etc.) in any current format, some but not all...plus it's just fun digging in the crates to see what people have discarded/sold. Our booty from Saturday's excursion includes:
Sex Pistols 'Never Mind The Bollocks'(LP)
The Beatnigs 'Television' (12" Single)
The Wolfgang Press 'Bird Wood Cage' (LP)
New Order ' Thieves Like Us' (12" single)
Public Image Limited 'Album' (LP)
I also bought a six-pack of Schlitz beer, which they've released in it's original 1960s recipe. As soon as I cracked one open (when we got home of course) I smelled it, poured it into a pint glass, smelled again....damn, it reminded me of being a kid. It smells like I remember, when my dad would drink his beer in the evening, that smell that surrounded me when he opened that bottle as I sat next to him on the couch. Weird? It doesn't taste half bad either, unlike say, Budweiswer which smells ans tastes like ass. Bud used to be a dignified beer, but those days are long gone. If you want to taste the original Bud, go grab some Checvar...and give the Schlitz a go.
I am also waiting for the cold weather to break, this is one of those winters that seems to have no end...at least in the cold department, we have been fortunate enough not to be slammed with snow all winter. Not that I'm complaining, I know I have no control over the weather....at least I think I don't, I never tried....hold on...nope. I'm just ready for warmer weather and more sunshine.
Peace,
