Almost on Tour?

Yes, a surprise indeed. It seems Hello Edwards, the band composed of two fifteen year olds, was deemed fit to tour. I just recieved an email from a band called The Enigma Code, from England. As far as I can tell, they found us through Purevolume (www.purevolume.com/helloedwards) and wanted to tour with us, first in America for 7-9 dates and possibly more tours to follow in England.

As much as I would love to say, "Yeah! We'll be touring! We've never played a show in our lives, but we're going on tour!", I regret to inform you that such a thing will not be happening, at least not soon.

There are many good reasons for our decision, not the least of which being that we are fifteen and still living with our parents (The Enigma Code even wished us to supply transportation). Another very prominant factor is that TEC is quite a hardcore band, and we are not. I had the opportunity to listen to a select amount of their songs and they are nearly the opposite of everything Hello Edwards wishes to be in the music world.

I have absolutely nothing against hardcore bands, and listen to a few of them (Norma Jean, Underoath...) but our band is most definately modeling after bands such as Five for Fighting, Augustana, Copeland, and Deas Vail much more than any metal bands that I know of.

Thank you for reading this blog, and if The Enigma Code is reading this, rock on dudes! Even without us.

Garrett DeRossett

Well, "Photographs" is nearing completion. Just maybe one or two new songs, and I hope the album will be ready by the end of July or beginning of August. As I'm wrapping up "Photographs", I've started working on my new project, tentatively titled "The Light and the Beautiful", and even more tentatively set for release in October 2007. This disc should surprise, or at the very least, satisfy. I'm looking to add a bit more of my ambient roots, filter in some guitars, and put in some more beautiful piano melodies, a la Deas Vail, Seabird, or Mae. Ideally, the end result should be something like Mae mixed a small bit of The Postal Service, with some Coldplay elements thrown in for good measure.

Also, I'm hoping to promote my music a bit more, and have even offered it to an up and coming record company. Stay tuned for that, have fun, and check out any new things that appear on the site. Comments are totally appreciated, and a band Myspace may be in the works very soon. For now, the Virb profile will be the main headquaters for Hello Edwards, but there is a Pure Volume page with a selection of music on it. Head on over to http://www.purevolume.com/helloedwards for that.

A Different Turn.

I've taken a very different turn for Hello Edwards... I've found in the past couple of days (right after I recorded "Soundtrack of Life") that I wish for my music to be a little more indie-pop, with lyrics and such. Right now I'm working hard in my studio on a new song, and it definately rings more of Maroon5 or The Lonely Hearts than Bernard or The Postal Service. The old stuff will still be around... for awhile. Stay tuned. This summer's gonna be a good one, music-wise.

A Very Complicated Song

Two days

Over ten different instruments

More than three different versions

Came down to a little under 9 minutes... "The Soundtrack of Life". Although, of course, it was recorded in my normal crappy fashion, this is the most complicated song I've made yet. Combining the elements of a soundtrack and a classical piece, I've recorded an entire 9 minute song around one melody. It's something totally experimental, and something I've never done before. If you listen, you can kind of almost see it in a movie. Check it out- "The Soundtrack of Life".
