This is just a musical accident.

Sometimes the most meaningful music - the purest of songs - come about by accident. After years of writing songs with my band I've compiled a long list of songs that, for some reason or other, mean a lot to me even though they aren't quite suited for our Cds. Control over the song is something a songwriter doesn't always have. It would be a lot easier if he/she did.

Sometimes songs work on a level that has little to do with sound quality, perfect timing, or commerciality. Sometimes ragged vocals are better than smooth. Sometimes background noises help rather than hurt a song's effectiveness. Songs of this nature are sometimes early demos or songs that will later be Cd-worthy numbers. Sometimes they have very little to do with conscious song writing, meaning they "just happen." In fact, most of the pieces that will be posted here were done in a free association manner with no idea of what I was about to play either lyrically or instrumentally. Petri Souls are strictly songs of this sort. Songs that work in a strange way. Maybe it's only to my own ears. That is very possible.

This is not my "solo material". These songs are not part of a "side project". Nor are they "leftovers". These songs live just over the horizon from my songs with my band. They are in eyesight. Barely. They are like distant deformed cousins that sometimes hurt you by mistake but they really mean well.
