About
phon°noir is berlin-based musician matthias grübel, born 1982. he started producing under this moniker in early 2004, releasing his critically acclaimed debut album PUTTING HOLES INTO OCTOBER SKIES two years later on quatermass. a 2nd album entitled THE OBJECTS DON'T NEED US followed in late 2007, on quatermass motherlabel SUB ROSA. hong-kong based experimental label lona records released a limited 3" cd of collected phon°noir instrumentals later the same year. phon°noir's collaborations and remix activities include works with or for uzi & ari, calika, tg mauss, mikhail karikis, sea of love, anna-lynne williams, that summer and others. please visit phononoir.de for a detailed discography. in early 2008 grübel started a 2nd solo project, telekaster, focusing on the more ambient and textured side of his work. a first abum is to be released as a 12" vinyl on panic arrest in early 2009. beyond phon°noir and telekaster grübel is composing and producing as one half of german radioplay/performance duo phonofix - their works for radio have been broadcasted on Bayerischer Rundfunk, WDR 1Live, SWR2, Radio Bremen and Deutschlandradio - as well as for the theatre stage. he contributed music to productions at schaubühne berlin, maxim gorki theater berlin, HAU berlin, bat berlin and staatstheater mainz.
