I grew up in Bible-belt suburbia, got a degree in history, and flirted with careers in bartending, retail, and computer engineering before wandering the globe as a writer and photographer. I ran out of money in an alpine village in Austria, where I stayed on for six years, living out a sort of new monasticism with a community of Christ-followers and doing postgraduate studies in spirituality and culture. I married my college crush ten years out of college after running into her on a trip through central Europe.

Today I work for Living Water International, telling the story of lives and communities that are being transformed by the gospel--both in the developing world and in deepest, darkest suburbia. When I'm not writing or traveling, I invent board games, brew beer, snowboard, mountain bike, and get beaten at rummy by my beautiful wife.
