I finally decided to write my blog about my amazing trip to London and Liverpool, sooo here we go!
London:
We arrived in London at about 8:00m on Monday, May 26th. We didn't do much that night, we just found our way to or hotel in the Belgravia section of London, near Victoria Station. We settled down in the hotel and tried to sleep. The next morning we awoke to go down to our complimentary full english breakfast, and we left to take the tube to the Marylebone Underground station to meet Richard Porter, the Beatles in London tour guide. On this tour, the 'In My Life' tour, Richard showed us a lot: Boston Place, the street you see in the beginning of A Hard Day's Night that The Beatles are running down (where George falls down), Marylebone registry office where Paul married Linda and Ringo married Barbara, Montague Square where Ringo owned an apartment that he, Jimi Hendrix and John and Yoko all lived in at one point, Wimpole Street where Paul lived with Jane Asher and her family, Baker Street where the Apple Boutique was located, the restaurant from Help! (Rajahamas, which is now the Giraffe), and finally, we made our way to the underground to the St. John's Wood Station and went to see Abbey Road. Richard talked about each place and gave us time to take pictures everywhere. At Abbey Road, we all signed the wall (I wrote down the names of the ABE girls, and also wrote 'I Love You George, Love, Lauren' and 'Beatles Forever.' Then we tried to take pictures crossing the road. That is harder then it looks! It's a busy street, and people do not like to stop! We eventually got a few pictures and then we visited Richard's store - the Beatles Coffee Shop at the St John's Wood station. We made our way back to Victoria Station via underground, and we found a pub there called Molly O'Gradys where we had lunch since we were starving!! We didn't do too much after lunch that day. We were all still tired, so we went back to the hotel and later on we took a walk around the area where we were staying. We were surprised to find out that everything seemed to close early - around 6:00. Pubs were still opened, but many just served drinks.
On Wednesday, we were supposed to get a train to Henley-on-Thames to see the town, but my mom wasn't feeling well. Instead we decided to sleep late and then spend the day at a museum or something. We ended up missing breakfast at the hotel, so we stopped at Starbucks on the way to Victoria station and made our way to the museums. We ended up at the Natural History Museum. Michael really liked that. To me, it was ok. Lots of dinosaur bones and other creatures. We had lunch there which turned out to be very expensive and not very good. After the museum we made our way over to Harrods. That was very cool, not that I can afford anything there. It was really fun to see. We walked all around and ended up in the Food Hall where we bought dinner to bring back to the room.
Thursday was another Beatles Tour. We had breakfast at the hotel again and made our way to Tottenham Court Road outside the Dominion Theater to meet Richard (after grabbing some drinks at Starbucks first!). This was the 'Magical Mystery Tour' and there were a lot more people on this tour. We met some guys from Boston who were really nice and a couple from Texas who were nice except for the fact that the guy kept trying to stump me with Beatles trivia the whole time (he never stumped me though, haha). On this tour, we saw Paul's MPL offices, Trident Studios where Hey Jude, My Sweet Lord and lots of other famous songs were recorded, Carnaby Street, Asprey's the jeweler in Help!, the Apple building at 3 Savile Row where the Apple recording studios were and where the rooftop concert took place, the Linda McCartney photo exhibit at the James Hyman Gallery, and we ended up back at Abbey Road again where we got a few better pictures again. I waved to the webcam a few times - did anyone see me? Lol! After the tour we ate lunch at an Italian pizza place on Baker Street and then walked (in the rain) to the London Beatles Store which wasn't very far away. Later, after we got back to the hotel and relaxed a bit, we found a pub called Shakespeare's where we had a very good dinner. We got some more snacks for the room at Victoria Station afterwards too!
The next day was designated for any London touristy stuff that we missed. So, we booked 'The Original Tour' and we spent the day driving around London on the top of a double decker bus. We went to Buckingham Palace and the Tower Bridge where we also had a pretty good breakfast at a cafe there. We took a ferry from the Tower Bridge down the Thames to Westminster Abbey and Big Ben. The ferry ride was great - it was nice to be on the water, the only problem was we couldn't find the next bus stop after we got off at Westminster Abbey! We ended up walking all the way to Trafalgar Square and we still couldn't find the right one. We finally found one and we took that up to the Royal Albert Hall so we could see that. After that we made our way back towards the hotel where we started packing up and getting ready for our early trip to Liverpool the next day! That blog will be on the way soon (and I think it'll be more interesting, lol!)
