"Serge Gainsbourg Meets Grandaddy ..."
Created in 2001 by Yann GIRAUD (vocals, guitars) and Stephane PEREZ (bass, backing vocals), PORCO ROSSO is a blend of various influences from french literature to british and american pop-rock. They recorded their first E.P., Des Jours Meilleurs, in 2003, an original work filled with beautifully crafted pop songs, somewhere between Radiohead, The Kinks, Serge Gainsbourg and Wilco. After several concerts in Paris, they recorded a second E.P., Porcographie, exploring the music of some different influences, like Curtis Mayfield and Fela Kuti, and adding more subtle vibes to their universe. At this occasion, the band line up was made complete with the arrival of Victor PAVY (Keyboards and Lead guitar) and Jean-Baptiste FLEURY (drums). Porcographie was released during summer 2006. Both E.Ps can be downloaded through iTunes and Virgin Mega.fr, but only Des Jours Meilleurs is available as a CD at CD Baby.
French magazine NewComer described the music made by Porco Rosso as a mix between French singer Dominique A and Portland-based pop band The Shins.
4 more tunes to be heard at http://www.myspace.com/porcorosso. Their first album should be released in June 2009.
