How This All Started

As some of you may recall, a short twenty-three months ago Virb made a big shift in its product and business model. We charted a new course: away from Virb "the social network" toward Virb "the DIY website builder.” It was a bold (and somewhat scary) move.

Flash forward almost two years, and I can confidently say it was the best decision we could have made. We released a product that was an immediate hit—a product that not only looks gorgeous and works great but fixes a problem that many of us face every day.

Where We Are Now

We've reached an important crossroads in the evolution of Virb, one that will directly control the success of our product and our business. Do we continue with "start-up culture,” keeping the team small and development timeframes familiar? Or do we take another bold step and strap rocket boosters to Virb, giving way to more features more often, better support, improved reliability, and good, hearty innovation?

Rocket boosters. Of course.

In 2009—during the social network era of Virb—we took a substantial round of investment from (mt) Ventures, the venture arm of (mt) Media Temple Inc, an INC 500 company. Who knew, three years later, Virb would be a DIY website service, financially backed by a top hosting company. Kismet, right?

So... what would happen if you took this growing website builder and combined forces with one of the top hosting companies on the planet? Two words: rocket boosters.

I'm giddy like a schoolgirl to finally announce that Virb has officially joined the (mt) Media Temple family of products. This is big for Virb. This is big for (mt) Media Temple. This is HUGE for our customers.

Where We're Going

Imagine a team responsible for the uptime and performance of Virb—24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Imagine a team dedicated solely to customer support and Virb's Help Center. Imagine a Virb with integrated email service and domain name purchasing. Imagine all of this for the very familiar price of $10/mo.

Well campers, there's no need to imagine. This is the future of Virb. Virb has a vision, and (mt) Media Temple rocks the collective manpower and brainpower to help get us there faster.

With (mt) Media Temple at our side, we'll soon be unveiling several of our most innovative features to date. Themes, rebuilt from the ground up, to work flawlessly and look beautiful on all screen sizes—no matter the device. Even our forthcoming, reengineered Content Editor is something we're genuinely proud of.

In closing, I must say just how lucky and extremely blessed I've been to have one of the best small teams in the industry. Virb is not a job for us. It’s an opportunity to build an exciting product and have a freaking blast doing it. Teevio, Dave, Rubin, Ryan, Brett, Buttrey, Tiffany and Jose, give yourselves a round of applause. Virb wouldn't be what it is without each and every one of you.

And to our customers... we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being part of Virb. This change is going to be great for you too. I'm excited to show you what we're about to do.
