Okay, we made it to Vancouver; barely.
I will start off by saying that I am the one who made the first mistake. I admit it, and it was a dumb one, but we survived it. This is the thing. Our plane was leaving LaGuardia at 6:15 am. I had worked the bar the night before and didn't get home until about 2. I printed out our e-tickets then and went to bed, waking up at 4 to get to the airport by 5. We get to the American Airlines terminal and I'm having some trouble checking myself in with the robots, so we wait in line to talk to a real drone. She takes her time letting us know that we are not on a American Airlines plane this morning, but a Delta flight. Shit! We run outside and take a cab to the Delta terminal a couple minutes away. We check in and the place is a zoo! The line for Security is about 200 deep and we're thinking there is no way we are getting on the plane. But at 5:50 we are taken out of the line and let through security and to the gate just in the nick of time.
Sleep.
We landed in Portland a little late on account of a delay in Minneapolis. It seems part of the plane was on fire. So it goes. We grabbed a sweeeeeeet minivan and headed out. Check it.
This minivan even has those newfangled electric doors that open by themselves. Sweet. We drove up to Seattle and went straight to my friend Greta's restaurant, "BluWater Grill." It was really good to see her as I haven't seen her in a couple years, but she was crazy as ever. She fed us margaritas and beer and we watched Monday Night Football and the fall of the Yankees. We were pretty amazed that MNF was on a 5pm, even though it was dark in Buffalo. Time zones are very fun since they mess with your mind so much. Eventually, Rubins buddy Eli Kaufman came and met us at the bar and we ate some dinner and talked. We talked about going out, but then decided it would be better to go over to his house and jam. So thats what we did. We met his wife Jeppa there who is a singer in the area that goes by the name of GoatGirl. They also have an arsenal of musical equipment. I started out playing the organ with Rubin on the piano and Eli on this crazy Asian guitar. Then Eli picked up the accordian and we played some of Jeppa's songs with Rubin on the organ and me on the piano. Her songs are both heartbreaking and haunting, and her and Eli's harmonies are flawless. But we kept the mood light throughout, jamming on "Louie Louie" and other such classics. Soon, we left and drove back to Greta's apartment. It had been a long day of travelling and it was time for bed.
