Neumos in Seattle

post a comment | posted Oct 15

We woke up in Vancouver and went out to breakfast at the Parrot. It was weird, but at least there were guys drinking budweiser at 10 in the morning. Thats always reassuring that you are in Sin City. We left and got through the border with no problem and had a beautiful drive down to Seattle. The trees are all changing out here, so the colors and light were so crisp and amazing. We went over to my friend Greta's apartment and chilled. She has a pretty incredible apartment and I hung out up on her roof enjoying the view of the entire city. We went to Neumos and talked to the soundguy, and he informed us that Fujiya & Miyagi were still at the border! It turns out they were held there for 6 and a half hours! We sound checked with "Tourist" and then went out to get some food. We met up with Rubin's fried Eli and went and ate some incredible pizza. We were met their by our friend Eric Shansby, who was from that time on, our Tour Manager. Now we were the Three Amigos and we spent a lot of time singing "My Little Buttercup." We went back to Neumos and F&M still hadn't shown up so we went across the street to the Comet. When we returned to Neumos, I went over to the KEXP table and talked to those guys about how great their radio station is and how I used to listen to it steaming every day when I woke up. During this time, Shansby was about to not be let in because his ID was expired, so there was some drama but I missed it all, as usual.
Fujiya & Miyagi finally showed up and made a mad dash to get all their gear set up, and we went on literally five minutes after they had set up. Our show was fun fun fun! There was almost no one there when we started, but by the time we played "Zoobar," the place was rockin'. I dropped the microphone during that song and was pretty embarrassed, but played it off pretty well. Everyone was dancing by the end and I got to sweat through another shirt. It's hard for me to convey our shows in type. I mean, it's good music to type to, but it's difficult for me to tell you what I am thinking when I'm stage. Mostly its "Remember the words, and don't fall off the stage." So, Fujiya & Miyagi went on a little later and I went up into the balconey to watch. It was nice up there and you could see the crowd going nuts downstairs. The crowd really loved it and the dance party was really fun to watch. When they finished we all hung out downstairs drinking and admiring the Man Man graffitti on the wall (they have the best graffitti in all the venues; its almost like they hired someone to do it for them in all these places). The guys from F&M were pretty wiped out from their ordeal at the border, so they went back to the hotel. Uncle, Shansby, and I went back to Greta's and drank some Sam Adams and listened to Low End Theory while we had art time.
Sleep.
