Project Revital

Homelessness is an instilled institution created to support a tier of our society. Its intent rakes of the populace those who have a deteriorating ability to survive. Its reason, to deplete their motivation. It marks and labels them as those who can not and will not sustain a specified economic measure of expenditure. They are left to create their own sub-society where although riddled by crime, instinctively they support themselves - as no one else seems to care - while the coarse grate of society removes them, determinedly, methodically, one by one.

We contribute throughout our lives, paying taxes, purchasing, supporting our economy. We live for years, sheltered by daycare, teachers, professors, career and job counselors, healthcare professionals and financial advisors who support our economic effort within the United States. Here we do not consider inability as a plight, but rather choice and purpose.

Too many grasp for survival in American Socity. We hear of them as foreclosures and consider them deadbeats. We see them as homeless and find them appalling, mentally ill, indignant, and indifferent to their circumstances. We avoid them as addictions, plague, fearing their poisoning the perspective of younger minds who might follow their irresponsibility.

Though surrounding this topic is an enormous argument; who is to blame, what can be done, how much effort has been squandered - should be squandered - the reality is that we are slowly removing ourselves from situation created by an evasive air of indifference.

Aggrevated circumstances notwithstanding, we regard ourselves above, along the evident success of effort. This is the premise upon which this country was founded. A protestant value, it truncates failure for success. However, the reality is that too many are struck by mental illness, unfair treatment, and abuse.

They're left to the streets to survive along avenues leading towards death, illness and further abuse - not only from their original persecutors - poor education, harmful profiling of gender and ethnicity, death of a family member(s), job loss, depression leading to drug, alcohol, and self abuse, but circumstance creating irrevocable situations where they are effectively imprisoned and castrated from society - Forthwith.

Our homeless citizens have become the leopards of new societies. They have sadly become our benchmark.

Rather than making efforts to find a cure, we address them cautiously, secularly, sparingly, removing them from parks, sweeping them into areas of disheartening conditions, binding them in ignorance and devaluation. Much as a penny has a token value in our economy, their regard is seen as too costly.

What is the solution? Information. How can it help? By removing the barriers we have built encircling our fears as to the nature and cause of homelessness - more importantly disseminating its presence as proximity within our own lives.

I'm with a group beginning a new endeavor, Project Revital. It's a not-for-profit entity (more on the domain name later) which hopes to encourage people in each community to discuss, write, and drive education along their words, their perspective. It hopes to generate interests for marketers, scratching a percentage from their revenues to enable action, to return to these citizens the primary ingredient of survival - dignity and self worth.
