I'm in the middle of studying for midterms right now. It kinda blows.

I've had iTunes on Party Shuffle a lot lately. I'm usually a listen-to-the-whole-album-all-the-way-through kinda person, but lately I've gotten bored of that. Also, there's this neurobio program I have to use a school computer for, so I've also been using Pandora for internet radio a lot too. I didn't realize you could actually sign up for an account there and have your "stations" saved. I remember seeing the site a long time ago and thinking the interface was ugly so I didn't pay much attention to it.

I am on waaaay too many social networking / web2.0 sites. The other day I was bored (ok, study-procrastinating) and I made a list:

ME ON THE INTERNET

virb (rachel)

flickr (_rachel)

twitter (rjk)

del.icio.us (intensify)

facebook

waferbaby (rachel)

livejournal (frenemy)

last.fm (intensify)

iminlikewithyou (rach) < this is in private beta; I have some invites, if you want

And that's not counting the things i've signed up for and never really used, or used to use but don't anymore:

youtube (mushruminate)

vimeo (intensify)

digg (rkwon)

tumblr (rach)

threadless (intensify)

ma.gnolia (rachel)

Hm, now that I actually write it all out, that list doesn't look that impressive anymore.

Note that MySpace is not on that list. Nor will it ever be. You know how vegetarians feel about meat? That's how I feel about MySpace. Actually, it's more akin to how a hardcore vegan would feel about non-free range chicken and veal wrapped in bacon, fried in lard, then wrapped in a leather coat made out of the hide of baby kangaroos.

Basically, I don't really like MySpace.

Haha, you thought there would be content here, didn't you?

Um yeah. I'm at Starbucks, leeching off of someone's unsecure wireless network because I don't want to pay eleventy billion dollars to use T-Mobile wireless (stupid monopoly!). I was gonna leave, but when I went to turn off my computer, iTunes said that someone was listening to my iTunes. And I always feel bad cutting people off. I wish I knew who it was though. I'm always interested to meet people who like the same music and stuff that I do. Unless they're weird. I really like the show Buffy the Vampire Slayer but a lot of Buffy fans are really weird. Like, really.

...the MySpace-izing of Virb.

I'm starting to get random friend requests from bullshit websites and artists I don't even know. I don't really mind the bands so much, because they're just doing whatever they can to promote their music, but I really liked Virb a whole lot better when it was just cool people and not MySpace whores and businesses/sites with strictly commercial interests.

I always get the following bands mixed up:

- Pelican
- Caribou
- Tortoise

Not really in sound but more in name. Actually, in sound too. Pelican and Tortoise are both from Chicago and all three of them are super, super mellow. Caribou I think is just one dude, from Canada. My favorite of the three is Tortoise.

So yeah.

I made a new layout here. It looks basically how I envisioned it, but the CSS is sort of messy with lots of redundancies, and I can't get the comments textarea to be toggle off by default, and it'll probably look weird and unbalanced if I have more than a few comments, but I'm more or less pleased with how it turned out.

Hooray for Virb!

What's that, Virb home page?

I have two beta invites remaining? I have INVITES?

Oh, what to do? Whom shall I send a virtual embrace-slash-welcome to the world that is Virbland?

I was thinking of just putting out a notice on my site and giving it to the first person who responds, which is what I usually do when I get things of the invitation nature.

But I really like how the Virb community is right now. I like that it's still pretty small (or at least it SEEMS small to me).

I like how most people seem to be devoted to the community.

I like how my username is my actual name and not R4CH3L_a239847ry.

And -- this is mean, but -- I like how it's sort of elitist. I like that it is superior to that 'other' music-centric community site (ahemMYSPACE) in every way.

I'm such a bitch.
